About this experience

Join a private workshop led by a sushi master with experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant. With fully bilingual staff and private settings, every detail will be shared personally with you. Our sushi master brings over five years of sushi-making experience, including time at a Michelin-starred restaurant. His approach is rooted in precision — adjusting slicing angles, pressure, curing, and aging techniques with a scientific eye, stripping away the unnecessary to let each ingredient speak for itself. As the seasons shift and each fish's condition changes, so does his method. We invite you to explore the craft of sushi through the eyes of a master.

We had a really enjoyable experience learning how to make sushi. It was fun, educational and very tasty! Stella was an excellent instructor and the vibe was very relaxed and informal. Cook had skills!

Great sushi birthday experience!

Our family truly enjoyed this sushi making experience! It was insightful learning the history of sushi in Japan. Our daughters loved it and were able to make some very delicious sushi! Unlike my girls, I'm a sushi novice, but still had fun trying to keep up with them. The team made it a fantastic experience!

Fabulous sushi-making with master chef

We just enjoyed the most fabulous experience learning to make sushi with a master chef. Along with the chef, they had two very friendly guides that assisted us in making sushi. They had perfect English and were very easy to understand, and were extremely friendly & welcoming. We had a group of seven ranging in ages from 9 years old to 49, and they made the experience very fun & engaging. Our family frequently enjoys sushi at home in California, and now our kids will have a much deeper appreciation for what goes into making beautiful, delicious sushi. We would highly recommend this experience to friends & family!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are truly happy to hear that your family enjoyed the sushi-making experience with our chef and guides. It means a lot to us that guests of all ages — from children to adults — were able to have fun together and enjoy learning about Japanese sushi culture. We are especially honored to hear that your children gained a deeper appreciation for sushi and the craftsmanship behind it. Comments like yours are incredibly encouraging for our entire team. Thank you again for joining us during your trip to Japan. We hope to welcome you and your family again someday!

Amazing experience!

Had an amazing experience here which lasted around 2 hours. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable and provided great instructions. The kitchen setup was amazing to see and experience and provided a great atmosphere. The food was great and it was interesting learning about a different form of sushi than westerners are typically used to. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough, the food was great and the host/translators English was perfect and answered all of our questions. We opted to include a Sake tasting menu and the sake recommendations were also great as well as the explanations on the different types of Sake. I would recommend checking out the location in advance on Google maps as it was a little hard to identify the correct building as we couldn’t see a sign on the outside but that could have been us missing it. While on the more expensive side of some of the Sushi experiences that we saw online Must do experience and couldn’t fault it!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review! We are truly happy to hear that you enjoyed the entire experience — from the sushi-making and sake tasting to the atmosphere of our kitchen and the conversations with our staff and guides. It means a lot to us that you found the experience both enjoyable and educational, especially learning about traditional Japanese sushi styles that may differ from what is commonly experienced overseas. We are also very glad you enjoyed the sake tasting and our team’s explanations and recommendations. Thank you as well for your valuable feedback regarding the location and building signage. We sincerely appreciate you pointing this out, and we will continue working to make it easier for future guests to find us smoothly. We understand that our experience may be priced higher than some other options, so hearing that you felt it was worthwhile truly means a great deal to our entire team. Thank you again for visiting us during your trip to Japan. We hope to welcome you again someday!

Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master cost?

+

Prices start at $19800 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master take?

+

Plan for about 1.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 101 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1.8-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master?

+

Around 35 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 1.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Sushi Making with a Sushi Master start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

+

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

+

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
