Worst Gray line tour ever
1. Driver did not fasten seat belt when driving 2. Not a passionate and professional tour guide 3. Malfunctioned with the car and force everyone leave and take ferry back to the city on our own
Response from the operator: Thank you for your honest feedback. We apologize for the issues you experienced with the driver and the vehicle. Your comments are important, and we’ll work to improve our service.

Tarek was outstanding
Our tour guide was the most friendly, knowledgeable gentleman that I've ever had the pleasure of taking a tour with. He made everything interesting, knew the answers to almost every question, and most importantly made everything fun. I would highly recommend this tour company but definitely try to have your tour guided by Tarek.

What's with all the bad reviews? This tour was amazing!
I actually hadn't read any of the reviews before the tour, so I had no idea what to expect. When we got on the bus, it was us, a group from Alberta, and a group from Alabama. Due the small number of people, we ended up getting our tour a bit personalized. Our tour guide Danilo was really nice and had a great sense of humour. He gave us as much time as we wanted. The lengths of the tour and the stops were perfect and I have no complaints whatsoever. Don't listen to the bad reviews! Grayline is amazing!

Great fun!
Thank you so much, we had an amazing day with Jess, Vicky and Robert the driver <3 Would definitely recommend to start off your time in San Francisco with this tour so then you can go back and eat and drink in all places Jess recommends (you will NOT regret it)

This 3,5 - 4 hours tour gave us the...

This 3,5 - 4 hours tour gave us the gist of San Francisco if you don't have the time to do a day tour. Robert was our driver and tour guide, and he was very knowledgable and good in giving information and also the history of the city. We were on a big nice van that can fit approximately 30 people, for the 5 of us. It would be better if they could accommodate us in a smaller van or SUV for easy manouver and mobilisation to avoid traffic.

The only bothering issue was during the booking confirmation process. I emailed viator to confirm the booking and to find out other details about the tour, and was pushed to Gray Line as the tour operator. I found out that instead of a private tour, I was put into the general tour and there is nothing that the staff could do even after explaining to them that I have paid for a private city tour. For 3 days of emailing complaints back and forth to Viator, finally the Gray Line GM, Chris, called and managed to rectify everything for me. I was happy that finally the issue was settled few hours before the tour took place.

Despite the traffic and limitation of using a big van, Robert managed to get us to see the most of San Francisco. Yes, you need to be quick in getting pictures and make sure that you get your toilet break and snacks throughout the tour as you only have 4 hours to spend. In general, we are happy with the tour at the end of the day.

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Francisco.
How much does Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito cost?
+
Prices start at $190 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Francisco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito take?
+
Plan for about 8.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Francisco is not rushed.
Is Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in San Francisco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Francisco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Francisco and add a light layer if any part of the 8.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private San Francisco City Tour and Muir Woods with Sausalito start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Francisco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Francisco?
+
San Francisco packs Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Napa and the bay into day-trip range, which makes booking order matter more than anywhere else in the US. Alcatraz sells out weeks ahead, wine-country vans fill on weekends, and the best food walks in the Mission and Chinatown cap at a dozen people. Our ranking favours small groups and guides who live in the neighbourhood they walk. On Outty we rank every San Francisco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge Muir Woods Sausalito with Optional Alcatraz, Chinatown, North Beach, Little Italy: 7 Tastings & History. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Francisco?
+
September and October, the city's real summer, once the fog season breaks. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Francisco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
