    1. The South African Police Memorial, located on the grounds of the Union Buildings in Pretoria, honors South African Police Service members who died in the line of duty. State President P.W. Botha unveiled the monument on October 17, 1984. General Michiel Christian Wilhelm Geldenhuys, then-Commissioner of the South African Police, dedicated the memorial's cornerstone on May 20, 1983. The two-meter-high concrete wall signifies the duty of police protection, while the seven pillars represent the many branches of service. The memorial has plates with the names of the fallen engraved on them and is placed across from an amphitheater that organizes an annual memorial ceremony to honor South African police officers who died in the line of duty.

It is constructed of bronze and weighs around 3.5 tonnes. It is 8 meters long from fingertip to fingertip. It was cast in 147 parts at four separate foundries before being assembled in Cape Town, where the Knight brothers at Sculpture Casting Services Foundry did the engineering. Nottingham Road in KwaZulu-Natal was used to cast the legs and arms. The statue was unveiled on the Day of Reconciliation (16 December 2013), putting the ten-day formal mourning period to an end after Mandela's death on 5 December.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pretoria and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pretoria?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pretoria?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
