The best Porto has to offer and taste

This experience with Jorge and Isabel and Miguel, (their bright, animated, charming son) was nothing short of dreamy! It will be indelibly marked in our minds forever. The setting, the family, the gentle way of teaching us, the laughter and the food, was so beautiful. From the markets to table, the produce and cooking experience was exceptional, making - Caldo Verde, Pica-Pau, pork cheeks with potatoes and oyster mushrooms, and of course - the best Pastel de Natas we’ve had in Portugal!! The conversation was just like old family friends, and the cooking, wine and ambiance was second to none. Will be recommending this experience to everyone!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this incredibly heartfelt review! We’re thrilled to hear that your experience with Jorge, Isabel, and Miguel was such a memorable highlight of your time in Portugal. It sounds like the warmth of their family, the market visit, cooking, and wonderful food all came together to create a truly special evening. We’re especially happy to hear that you enjoyed everything from the Caldo Verde and Pica-Pau to the pork cheeks and, of course, the Pastel de Nata! We’ll be sure to share your kind words with Jorge and Isabel. Thank you for recommending their experience, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable culinary adventure in the future!

From Pastéis de Nata to New Friendships

If you're considering taking this cooking class, don't hesitate—it's one of the most memorable experiences we had in Portugal. From the moment we walked through the door, Jorge, Isabel and their son Miguel welcomed us into their home with such genuine warmth and kindness that we immediately felt comfortable. It never felt like a tourist activity; it felt like being invited into the home of old friends. Not only did we learn how to prepare several traditional Portuguese dishes, but we also learned about the stories, traditions, and culture behind the food. Isabel and her husband were incredibly patient, encouraged us every step of the way, and happily answered every question we had. Their passion for Portuguese cuisine and hospitality made the entire experience so engaging in a very calm setting on their terrace amidst the beautiful flowers in their garden. The food was absolutely delicious, from the savoury dishes to the incredible Pastéis de Nata. We're so excited to recreate these recipes back home in Toronto and share them with our friends and family. What stood out most, though, was sitting down together at the end of the class to enjoy the meal we had all prepared. It didn't feel like the end of a cooking lesson, it felt like a family gathering. Sharing stories, laughing together, and enjoying homemade food around the table is something we'll always remember. Thank you, Jorge and your wonderful family, for opening your home and your hearts to us. Your generosity, hospitality, and warmth made this one of the highlights of our first trip abroad. We left with full stomachs, new skills, wonderful memories, and the feeling that we had made new friends in Portugal. We truly hope to return one day with family and friends!

    Fantastic Memory

The hosts, Jorge, Isabel and Miguel were very welcoming. Their apartment balcony was large and where we cooked our meal. Everything was ready and organized. A very good meal of cheese and sardines for appetizers, shrimp and Torbut fish with market vegetables and excellent wine. We made pastel de nata for dessert. Scrumptious!

    The best!

I've done many cookery experiences and cookery courses. This has to be the best yet. We were treated like family and left as friends. A truly fantastic way to spend a few hours.

    Best experience ever

This was an outstanding experience. Our hosts were so nice and made us feel welcome into their home as if we were having dinner with dear friends. We arrived to a welcome glass of wine and several tasty appetizers. We had great fun preparing the dishes and helping to cook. The food was authentic, delicious, and accompanied by excellent local wine. We prepared codfish fritters, roasted octopus with smashed potatoes and vegetables, and green beans. For desert we made roasted apples with cinnamon, anise, sugar, and port wine. The final treat was pastel de nata, which was the best we tasted anywhere in Portugal. Very nice wine was included. Jorge, Isabel, and family also shared their homemade recipe for a special sauce to garnish the octopus. I have been to 23 countries in Europe and without question this was the best event of any!

Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Porto.

How much does Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class cost?

    +

Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Porto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Porto is not rushed.

Is Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Porto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Porto Market Tour & Authentic Portuguese Cooking Class start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Porto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Porto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Porto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Porto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
