I left my husband in Rome at his meeting & had the best day on the tour of the entire x2weeks in Italy :)
Be sure to bring a water bottle if you head on to Pompeii. It was insanely hot in 2019. I also brought a snack banana, apple and an egg… despite the amazing lunch the fruit helped with my heat induced headache. Must wear comfortable shoes! I chose driving moccasins because I wanted my Italy photos to look as nice as the places I visited. I absolutely loved the guides, both the driver and the Pompeii guide. It was a good day. This time around I’m going to book tours around the coast since I’m “training” from Rome to Sorrento then Sorrento to Florence. I’ve enjoyed Viator tours in the States but I do love my Italy :)

Long but satisfying day.
Roberto was a total gentleman, great driver and very helpful guide. He arranged for a nice lunch in Positano and despite some terrible weather during the drive and poor traffic conditions he was super smooth and always made us feel safe. Positano is typical Amalfi coast and there are other places to preference but if it’s your thing it’s fine. Pompei was amazing. The local archaeologist guide was an absolute treat, hilarious, informative and made the time fly by. Overall, two great visits but a long day in the car. If you want do it in a day though, this is the way to do it.

Pompei and Positano - worth the drive
Roberto went above and beyond with driving us on this wonderful tour. Fantastic day spent driving to Positano, wandering the streets, stores and beaches of Positano. Before an amazing guided tour of the highlights of Pompei with Romolo as our guide. Can't speak highly enough of his insights into daily life in Pompeii. Disappointed that we didn't opt to be spending more time there. Could have spent at least a full day just in Pompei

Tour company cancelled last minute
I’m sure it’s a great tour, if it happens. The company contacted me a week or so before the trip saying the boat portion had to be cancelled and that they would refund 20 Euro per person for the change. Then they contacted me 2 days before to say that another group had cancelled and now the tour was no longer guaranteed to run and they suggested that I cancel as well. So unless you want to spend part of your vacation scrambling for a last minute tour, maybe pick a more reliable company to book with.
Response from the operator: Dear Client , I'm sorry of course for the inconvenience caused. We operate tours with maximum 8 people and if we receive last minute cancellations ( majority of resellers, as you know, have a full refund policy if cancellation is made more than 24 hrs before the tour ) and we go down to 2 or 3 people, we do not have other alternative than offering to reschedule on a different day or to cancel the tour. No need to say that of course we do not enjoy doing this, but this tour is very costly and we can not operate it without a guaranteed number of people . Kind Regards Monica

Why this scores 77
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome cost?
+
Prices start at $279 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 1,888 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome?
+
Around 661 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi Coast Tour from Rome start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
