    Mardi Himal, 5 Days

What an amazing experience it was! My Guide was Lal Gurung and I always felt very safe with hin, he explained a lot about Nepalese culture and knew all the mountains we saw and their exact hight. The teahauses we stayed in were also very welcoming and offered delicious food. Since we hiked relatively fast I feel like the hike could have been done in 3 or 4 days (we had one day with only 1.5 hours of walking and on the last day also only about one hour). But since it has been raining every afternoon/evening the timing was almost perfect. I can highly recommend this trek: it's not too hard but the mountainviews are stunning, especially on day 4 when we hiked to the view point and base camp at sunrise.

Response from the operator: Namaste Hanna Thank you very much for your wonderful review and for choosing Nepal Wilderness Trekking for your Private Mardi Himal Trek. We are delighted to hear that you had such an amazing experience with our guide, Lal Gurung. It is great to know that his knowledge of Nepalese culture, the Himalayas, and his attention to your safety helped make your trek enjoyable and memorable. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the welcoming teahouses, delicious food, and the spectacular mountain views along the trail. The sunrise hike to Mardi Himal View Point and Base Camp is truly one of the highlights of the trek, and we are glad the weather allowed you to enjoy those breathtaking views. Thank you as well for sharing your feedback about the itinerary. Weather conditions, especially during the rainy season, can influence the pacing of the trek, and we always try to balance safety, comfort, and the best possible mountain experience for our guests. We sincerely appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another Himalayan adventure in the future. Warm regards, Himal Ghale Managing Director Nepal Wilderness Trekking Pvt. Ltd.

    Terrible experience

I consider myself an experienced hiker. I have done multi-day backpacking in the USA (2 days, unguided), in Vietnam (2 days, guided), in Costa Rica (3 days, guided) and done full day hikes in many different countries. So my friend and I decided to book a 3 day guided trek with this company. At this point, I am very aware of my capabilities as a hiker as well as my physical limitations. The manager, Himal, did not give accurate information about trail conditions when I sent the initial inquiry. I specifically asked if there were many stairs, because although I can manage uphill and downhill rocky slopes well, stairs are difficult for my knees. He told me that there were only some stairs on the first day, and then a “gradual, steady ascent”for the remaining days. This seemed perfect, and my friend and I booked the trek and paid a deposit. It was 3 days of stone stairs. Half of the hike (55-60%) were stairs. And then stairs all the way downhill. My knees were in pain. My poor guide, Tashi, had to carry my backpack for me and provide physical support (I was physically leaning on him). Days later, my knees are still hurting. Interesting to note, the guide Tashi actually told me that all the trails were like this (stairs), which is infuriating because Himal never told me this. Something else he didnt mention prior to accepting our money…this particular trek is meant to be done in 5 days. In fact, everyone we spoke to regarding the hike afterwards told us that a 3-day trek was quite aggressive for the route that we took. We told Himal that we were considering a 3-day hike, and he shoved a 5-day hike into 3 days in order to take our money instead of honestly warning us about the potential difficulty, given the physical limitations I’d already told him about. When I emailed the manager to demand an explanation, he admitted that he gave me wrong information (!). I encourage people to not book with this company, unless they are comfortable with the risk of being lied to. I will say, the Porter Narsing and guide Tashi were incredible despite the circumstances. I wish them the best.

Response from the operator: Dear Kuray Tejal and Lisa Thai, At Nepal Wilderness Trekking, we offer both a 5-day Mardi Himal Trek and a separate 3-day itinerary. You submitted your inquiry through the 3-day package link, which is designed for fit and experienced hikers. Based on this, I understood that you were comfortable with a shorter and more demanding trekking schedule. I fully respect your right to share your experience, and I also have the right to provide a truthful account of the services we delivered during your trip. Our company arranged all necessary permits, transportation, guide, porter, and complete trekking logistics for you and your friend. Throughout the trek, our guide Tashi and porter Narsing worked hard to support you and ensure your safety on the more challenging sections of the trail. With their assistance and care, you were able to complete the trek successfully. Both are dedicated and experienced members of Nepal Wilderness Trekking. As I mentioned earlier, I acknowledge that I should have explained more clearly that the Mardi Himal route includes many stone staircases and steep ascents and descents. Trekking in Nepal is naturally more demanding than hiking in many other countries due to the mountainous terrain. However, despite receiving all agreed services, you did not pay the remaining 75% balance at the end of the trip, including the wages of the guide and porter who worked very hard to assist you. According to our terms and conditions, we require only a 25% deposit to confirm the booking. Normally, all clients pay the remaining balance before the trek begins. In your case, you informed us that you would pay the remaining amount in cash to the guide in Pokhara. When guide Tashi requested payment, you said you did not have enough cash and would settle the balance after returning to Pokhara. Later, you told him that you would visit our office Kathmandu to make the payment. Unfortunately, you never came to our office, and you departed Nepal without paying the outstanding amount. Based on these repeated delays and unfulfilled promises, it became clear to us that you had no intention of settling the remaining balance. This was extremely disappointing for our local staff, who worked sincerely to provide you with a safe and successful trek. When I request mail about the payment then warning me don’t ask me payment. I hope that, in time, you will reflect on this situation and choose to do what is fair. Himal Ghale Managing Director Nepal Wilderness Trekking

    Perfect trek and amazing views

We had an absolutely incredible experience with Bhim (guide) and Pawan (porter). They were so kind and patient with us, spoke really good English and spent time telling us about their lives whilst walking and playing cards together in the evening. The length of the treks each day were perfect allowing for enough time for relaxation and recovery. The view from the viewpoint was truly stunning. Thank you for an unforgettable 5 days.

Response from the operator: Namaste Ella, Namaste and thank you so much for your wonderful review of your Mardi Himal Trek experience with us. We’re truly happy to hear that you had such an incredible time with Bhim and Pawan. They are both very dedicated, and it means a lot to know their kindness, patience, and company made your journey even more special. Sharing stories along the trail and relaxing together in the evenings is what makes trekking in Nepal so memorable. It’s great that you found the daily walking pace comfortable and had enough time to rest and enjoy the mountains. And yes—the views from the Mardi Himal viewpoint are always something truly unforgettable! Thank you again for choosing us and for your kind words. We hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure in the future. Warm regards, Himal Nepal Wilderness Trekking

Private Mardi Himal Trek: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pokhara.

How much does Private Mardi Himal Trek cost?

    +

Prices start at $500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pokhara usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Mardi Himal Trek take?

    +

Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pokhara is not rushed.

Is Private Mardi Himal Trek worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 51 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pokhara, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Mardi Himal Trek?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Mardi Himal Trek suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Mardi Himal Trek?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pokhara can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pokhara and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Mardi Himal Trek start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pokhara within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pokhara?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pokhara experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ghorepani - Poon Hill Trek 3N-4D, Annapurna Base Camp Trek -8 days, Annapurna Base Camp Treks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pokhara?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pokhara?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
