Appalling service and NOT a private tour!
We booked a private tour several weeks ago and had confirmation from them. The afternoon before we had an email advising there would be 4 on our ‘private’ trip. We were surprised but agreed. Unfortunately the other couple refused as wanted the ‘private’ trip we had both booked. Trip Advisor then emailed us to say our trip ( the next day) was cancelled!!!! We contacted the tour company who advised we could rebook it with them for same day but for MORE money!!!! Why did they confirm both bookings as ‘private’ then expect us both to accept it was for 4? Why then offer us the same tour but for more money? When I emailed them saying I thought this was a scam and would give them an honest review, they apologised and offered a price reduction!!! Very bad experience and very stressful!

Half Day Island Tour
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Madeira! The half-day private island tour was the perfect way to experience so many of the island’s breathtaking viewpoints and beautiful landscapes without feeling rushed. Having a private tour made all the difference. We were able to explore at our own pace, spend extra time at the places we loved most, and enjoy a relaxed, stress-free day without being tied to a large group or strict schedule. Our guide, Luis, was fantastic. He was incredibly friendly, fun to talk to, and had an impressive knowledge of Madeira’s history, culture, and natural beauty. Every stop came with interesting stories and insights that made us appreciate the island even more. If you’re visiting Madeira and want an easy, enjoyable way to see the island while learning about its history and culture, I can’t recommend this tour enough. The scenery is spectacular, the experience is completely stress-free, and Luis made the day even more memorable. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madeira!

Whole day tour was fantastic!
Truly an extraordinary way to see the whole island highlights in one day. Carefully curated so your ahead of the crowds, allowed time to wander, take photos along the way. Better than I imagined. Luis explained things along the way, never rushed or hovered. He is native to Madeira and it shows the passion he has for this beautiful island. Hands down the best way to see the island in one day.

Why this scores 76
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $130 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 169 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience?
+
Around 59 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Madeira Island Tour: The Most Complete 8-Hour Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
