Absolutely horrible experience except for beautiful view of Lake Como

The trip started horribly with poor instructions on how to meet our guide resulting in an hour delay of departure. This is not a cooking class by any stretch of the word. Chef Momi is quite charismatic but did not attempt to teach us anything or talk about any of the food. We chopped zucchini and cleaned mussels with assistant cooks who were pleasant. we did not watch or help with any cooking and were served a lunch that was nice but not great. The description of the class we booked outlined a wonderful, food and learning experience with wine and wonderful foods and that was a lie. Our tour guide was pleasant and informed but that was not the reason we booked this tour.

Response from the operator: Hello Joan P, we are very sorry for your horrible experience as you called it. To be honest I think you are not descriving correctly all the facts so I am here to explain the situation correctly in order to clarify everything especially for other travelers intersted in taking this beautiful tour . First of all, you booked this tour through an online platform that resell our tours and after we told them to change the meeting point they didn't changed it so you were waiting at the wrong meeting point while the guide was at the ordinary meeting point. then you were surprise that the tour was private while it is written that is a Private experience with our Chef, Guide and so on.. let's go on, you took the train to reach Como and then our Chef Momi picked you up from the station to take you to his Restaurant, you arrived at Momi place which is simply wonderful, directly on the Lake with a full view on the Lake. But let's talk about the cooking class, We take the opportunity given by this review to clarify what can be expected during our cooking class. This is a Real experience in real restaurant, you are involved in the preparation of the menu of the day. You follow Momi's assistant making fresh pasta, then another assistant cook for the second dish of the day and the same thing with the dessert. In the meanwhile chef Momi is always there as supervisor and explaining some of his secretes that can be useful at home also. After this full immersion it is time to have lunch. Your lunch is served with full view on the lake, the menù is served with a bottle of wine and free time for relax after the cooking experience. After lunch our Guide escort you by boat to Como for a nice walking tour before leaving the town.

Had a blast cooking with Momi, the head chef and the owner of the restaurant. We had a great time learning and helping out. Even though my daughter and I are horrible at cooking we still enjoyed the experience and had fun doing something we dont usually do. My wife had the most fun and helped cook some of the dishes. She even cooked for the restaurants customers! The view there is picturesque and breathtaking, so it was a great place for photos as well. I highly reccommend this as it is a great experience, wether you are experienced in cooking or not. I really enjoyed it. Renzo was a great tour guide. He answered every question we had in mind and told us a lot of interesting facts with his vast knowledge about Lake Como.

Response from the operator: Ciao! Thank you so much for reviewing on TripAdvisor your experience. We are so glad you had a great time and enjoyed our cooking class on Como Lake. A special thank you on behalf of all the staff, our chef Momi and our guide Renzo for choosing and visiting us. We hope to meet you and your friends again, organizing unforgettable trips to Italy. Grazie! Take care and Happy Travels!

A fun trip to Lake Como

Our guide Renzo chatted to us all the way to Como on the train giving us a good overview of the area and was willing to answer any questions. After disembarking the train we walked to a street corner where we were picked up by Momi, the chef, in his trusty van and continued to the markets. Momi was relaxed and cheerful as he collected his fresh produce, asking us if we had any special requests. After which he drove us along a windy road beside Lake Como to the restaurant. The setting was beautiful. We were offered coffee before we entered the kitchen. We were given various chopping tasks while Momi supervised the cooking of lunch, giving us instructions on how to cook each dish. I have never encountered such a happy, relaxed chef and it reflected in the tempo of all who worked there. We were offered an aperitif while preparing the pasta. The weather was perfect for sitting outside so we were taken to our table with the most spectacular view of Lake Como. We were offered wine with lunch and then we were presented with several courses we had watched/helped being prepared earlier. Delicious. After lunch Momi drove us back to the train station. Renzo was in no hurry to board the train and took us on a walking tour of Como, famous for its silk. Nothing was too much trouble for Renzo and he was a lovely guide. He even rescued my jacket which I left at the restaurant and returned it to me in Milan.

What can I say. We met Enzo our tour...

What can I say. We met Enzo our tour guide at Milan's Central Station. Enzo is local to Como and was able to give us a detailed history of the area. From Milan a short train ride to Lake Como where we met our chef and restaurant owner Momi. We then proceeded to the market where Momi picked up his food he was planning to prepare for his restaurant.
The restaurant is located directly on Lake Como in a beautiful setting. Momi put us to work cleaning some squid and we got a real feel what goes on behind the scenes. We were given a chance to help with the pasta making machine. not by hand
We were not too crazy about playing sous chef for a bit but when it was time to eat all I can say is wow.
A short ferry ride back to Como and a train back to Milan and it turned out be a memorable day.
