So much more than a cooking experience

The highlight of our grand trip to Bali. Yes, the food was amazing. We helped prepare it and learned about the different cooking methods and ways to repeat the recipe at home in the United States. Beyond the food though, the connection we made with our hosts in her home with her family is beyond describing. If you can fit this into your itinerary, you will not regret it. We went for a meal and left with our own Indonesian Ibu. Even the transportation from our resort to her house and back was smooth and flawless. It's all. Dotty communicated with me via WhatsApp a multiple times before arrival to coordinate and customize the meal. From start to finish a very, very special experience.

Truly personal and tailored for you. Much more than cooking !!!

Cooking with Dotty is so much more then learning to cook Javanese style. You learn about how to do it back in Australia and learn about how to present it and she shares more then her knowledge of cooking but her experiences here in Bali now and growing up in Java. I felt so welcomed into her home and so at home I didn’t want to leave. You get to cook but really get to know Dotty and her love of food and family. She shares so much more with you! It was an honour to do this amazing and very personal cooking experience with Dotty.

This was the highlight of my trip! I...

This was the highlight of my trip! I loved meeting Dotty and being welcomed into her home, and making some really amazing recipes. She is very accommodating to dietary restrictions and offers a lot of different choices of recipes to chose from. We made four really great recipes. It was so relaxing being in her home and getting the one on one attention! This is a must do for anyone coming to Bali!

This cooking class was one of my...

This cooking class was one of my favorite parts of our vacation in Bali! I took this cooking class with my boyfriend. We were staying in Kuta at the time and decided to utilize the transportation offered by our hotel to get to Dotty's house. Dotty does provide a transportation service, and I realized that we should have taken her up on that offer. Our driver was a bit of a headache to say the least. At one point I didn't think we would make it to the class on time. I was able to communicate with Dotty through WhatsApp, and she called to talk to our driver to help navigate him. I am happy we arrived to the class with the assistance of Dotty.

We took the class with two other women. They are from Italy, and it was fun to get to know them. We started the class gathered in Dotty's kitchen. She made us all feel very comfortable. We were all encouraged and able to participate in creating the dishes based on our own confidence levels. My boyfriend decided to watch for the most part, while myself and my two new friends worked on slicing and dicing ingredients to add to our dishes. Even though Grayson preferred to watch, he still learned so much! I think he was amazed to discover how simple cooking can be.

We enjoyed our lunch together after cooking. It was fun to sit and visit with everyone and get to know about different cultures. The lunch was delicious! It was pretty enough to be served at a restaurant. I was surprised that we were able to create so many dishes in such a short amount of time. I very much appreciated that each of the recipes were realistically achievable for anyone to complete. I can see myself making these dishes at home. Nothing seemed to be too intimidating to try to recreate. Even Grayson still raves about how easy it was to make such tasty rice!

After the completion of our class, Grayson and I planned on going to Tanah Lot...another trip I recommend! It is located close to Dotty's house, so it made for a great addition to our day. Our driver ended up being late did I mention he was a headache? and Dotty helped us communicate with him by calling him. Dotty was kind enough to let us stay and wait for our driver at her house. We very much enjoyed her company. Dotty is a kind and passionate chef. Many of our conversations, inside and outside of the kitchen, would end by talking about how meals bring friends and family together. It was wonderful to see her passion shine.

I would recommend this tour to everyone! Dotty has an incredible talent and a beautiful soul. I am very grateful that she is willing to open her home to tourists like me.

I wish you all the best, Dotty. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seminyak.

How much does Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu cost?

+

Prices start at $42 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seminyak usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seminyak is not rushed.

Is Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seminyak, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seminyak can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seminyak and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Javanese Cooking Class with Dotty in Tumbak Bayuh, Canggu start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seminyak within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Seminyak?

+

On Outty we rank every Seminyak experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Bali Waterfalls: Tibumana, Tukad Cepung and Tegenungan, Bali Instagram Tour: The Most Scenic Spots, Ubud Hot Springs and Waterfall Private Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Seminyak?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Seminyak?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
