Tea Plantation and culture
This was a fantastic trip! Cindy our guide picked us up at our hotel and took us to the train station. At the train station helped us navigate and board the train. She had previously bought the tickets so that part was taken care of. We enjoyed the hour ride. Once we arrive in Hangzhou, we were met by a driver and started our adventure. We first went to a tea plantation. This plantation is university owned and had a lovely display of how tea is dried. We could see the women picking the tea all along the roads. Cindy was quite knowledgeable and did talk to us about the history of the area while we were driving. While at the tea plantation we got to have a tea tasting. This was done in English with us and was very interesting. It was just a private tasting which was nice as there were many Chinese tourists there as well. Next stop was a Buddhist temple. Having the separate driver allowed us to be dropped off close to the entrance, which was great! This temple is quite large and was beautiful to explore. Cindy once again shared her knowledge with us while we walked the grounds. This is an active holy site so many Chinese people are there too. We then drove to the West Lake area. This is a very popular walking place. It’s a very beautiful waterside area. Cindy took us to a hotel where US presidents have stayed and we walked around there. Her knowledge of history was shared again during this time. Lunch was at a delightful restaurant with many food options available. She helped navigate the language barrier to order. Once again the driver let us out very close to the door. After lunch we returned to the train station and did the return trip to the hotel. It was the most enjoyable day!!

Excellent tour of Hangzhou - excellent tour by Cindy : )
It was a wonderful day, a lot of laughter, good food, and great sight seeing. My tour guide Cindy was a great person to travel with. Communication was easy. She picked me up at my hotel. Everything was done just right - with no time wasted. We went to the West Lake, The West Lake Hotel, Mao Ze Dong's garden where he studied English, then to a temple, a short hike, then to a really delicious country restaurant for lunch. Afterwards we tasted tea at a tea farm. Along the way, I got to see the Bullet Train. Cindy was really open to any sort of questions, and she was just a great companion to travel with. She didn't even lose her cool when my payment system failed initially (when I tried to pay her for the train tickets and a gratuity). She just left. But we got the payment worked out ok at the end. Cindy also did not push for me to give a positive review. But I would 100% recommend this tour with Cindy, and in fact if I'm ever back in China, I would go with Cindy again to see other sites / organized trips - I have the confidence that she could arrange a fabulous trip to your specifications.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.
How much does Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train cost?
+
Prices start at $198 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.
Is Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Hangzhou Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Shanghai?
+
On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Shanghai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Shanghai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
