Expertly organized and...
Expertly organized and efficient. Great choice of tour if you're short on time or just don't feel like visiting cenotes and Valladolid like most other tours do. We got picked up at 7:30 and were back by 2. Our guide, Aziz, was lots of fun and full of knowledge.

Five Star Day
We are a family of four who booked Tantum Travel for our airport transfer and were well taken care of by Leo. Communication with the office was clear and booking was easy. We decided we wanted to take the private Chichen Itza (express) tour. It was a day our family will remember forever. Not only was Azis friendly and energetic, but he knew so much about the history and Mayan culture, we felt like we were with an old friend. We learned so much and came to appreciate the Mexican culture all the more. It was a five-star day all around. I would not hesitate to work with Tantum Travel for a personalized, fun and easy vacation experience.

It was truly our pleasure to take care of your family's airport transportation and to be part of such a memorable day at Chichen Itza. We're delighted to hear that Leo provided a smooth start to your vacation and that the booking process was easy and clear. Your kind words about Azis mean a great deal. He is passionate about sharing the history, traditions, and culture of the Maya, and we're so happy to know that his enthusiasm made you feel like you were exploring with an old friend. Creating meaningful, personalized experiences that leave lasting memories is exactly what we strive for. Thank you for trusting Tantum Travel with your family's vacation and for recommending us to future travelers. We hope to welcome you back to the Riviera Maya for another unforgettable adventure! Perfect tour with Amazing guide
Review of Private Chichén Itzá Tours with Tantum Travel For many travelers, visiting Chichén Itzá is a true bucket list experience. As one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, it is one of Mexico's most iconic attractions and a place that should be on every traveler's itinerary when visiting the Cancun area. As owners of a travel agency in the United States, we are always searching for exceptional local tour companies that deliver outstanding service and value. Value does not always mean choosing the cheapest option. Sometimes paying a little more results in a dramatically better experience. After researching several tour providers, we discovered Tantum Travel. Their consistently positive reviews, combined with very competitive pricing for a private tour, caught our attention and ultimately convinced us to give them a try. There are certainly no shortages of ways to visit Chichén Itzá. Large group tours depart Cancun every day carrying 30-45 passengers. While those tours can be economical, they often involve crowded buses, multiple stops, shopping detours, and a less personalized experience. We decided that if we were going to visit one of the world's most important archaeological sites, we wanted to do it right. That decision proved to be one of the best choices we made during our time in Cancun. Our day began with a prompt 7:30 a.m. pickup by our guide, Asis. We immediately appreciated the comfort of traveling in a private, air-conditioned van reserved exclusively for us. The vehicle was stocked with cold drinks and snacks, and throughout the day we felt more like valued guests than customers. What truly separated this experience from other tours, however, was Asis himself. Asis is not your typical tour guide. His extensive travel experience and professional background working at Mayan archaeological sites throughout Mexico and Central America provided a level of expertise we never expected. His knowledge of Mayan civilization, regional history, archaeology, and local culture transformed what could have been a simple sightseeing tour into a fascinating educational experience. When we arrived at Chichén Itzá, that expertise became even more valuable. Rather than simply pointing out landmarks, Asis brought the ancient city to life through detailed explanations, historical context, and stories that helped us better understand the significance of what we were seeing. He tailored the pace and content of the tour to our interests while ensuring we experienced the site's most important highlights. As we walked through the ruins, we couldn't help but notice the large tour groups moving from location to location under the hot sun. Many visitors struggled to hear their guides or keep up with the group. We were grateful to have a much more personal experience that allowed us to ask questions, take our time, and truly appreciate the site. On the return trip to Cancun, we asked Asis if he knew of a local taqueria where we could enjoy authentic Mexican food. We weren't interested in the large tourist restaurants that cater to bus tours serving chicken nuggets and pasta. We wanted something local. Once again, he delivered. The place he selected was exactly what we were looking for. Great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and an authentic experience that became another highlight of our day. Sometimes the unplanned stops become the most memorable parts of a trip. We would strongly recommend Tantum Travel and Asis to anyone considering a visit to Chichén Itzá. The combination of personalized service, exceptional historical knowledge, comfortable transportation, and genuine hospitality made this one of the best tours we experienced during our time in Mexico. In fact, we were so impressed that we are already planning to use Tantum Travel again to explore the cenotes and Mayan ruins around Tulum. If you are looking for a private Chichén Itzá experience that goes beyond simply checking a box on your travel itinerary, Tantum Travel is a company we would confidently recommend.
Response from the operator: OMG Crystal, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an incredible and thoughtful review. It truly means a great deal to all of us at Tantum Travel. Knowing that your visit to Chichén Itzá became one of the highlights of your trip is exactly what we strive for with every guest. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you both and sharing the history, culture, and stories of this amazing place. We're especially happy that you enjoyed the authentic taquería stop—that's one of the experiences we love sharing with visitors who want to discover the real Mexico. We sincerely appreciate your kind words about our service, transportation, and hospitality. Receiving such high praise from fellow travel professionals makes your recommendation even more meaningful to us. Thank you again for trusting Tantum Travel with your adventure. We can't wait to welcome you back and show you the beautiful cenotes and Mayan ruins around Tulum on your next visit. Safe travels, and see you again soon! — Asis & the Tantum Travel Team

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza cost?
+
Prices start at $155 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Half-Day Tour to Chichen Itza start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
