Unique experience of the Great Wall
This is a one of a kind experience that starts away from the tourist crowds. It is very unique to hike the ‘wild’ section of the wall and you need to be in above average physical shape as the trek is strenuous. Our guide, Roy, was friendly and deeply knowledgeable about the history and construction of the wall. It is was challenging but I can’t imagine experiencing the wall any other way. It was a really great day.

Off the beaten track, authentic amazing great wall experienec
Our tour guide Michael was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Great Wall. He gave great attention to us and assistance. He was also very funny and helpful. You start with a lovely hike through the surrounding wilderness up to the first tower of the wall in the wild section. Then you get to hike original parts of the wall where no other tourists are which was an amazing experience. You finish off with a lovely Chinese lunch. I would recommend this tour to any body who wishes to experience the great wall authentically without heaps of tourists.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
The Great Wall of China is magnificent, but your help was priceless. We were deeply impressed by the supreme professionalism of the entire team and especially our guide Michael. Thank you for not leaving us to deal with our connection problems alone. You are a company that can be trusted 100%!

Excellent - cant recommend them enough
Violet from Beijing Tour Guide introduced herself via WhatsApp not long after we booked and was excellent in making sure this experience and a couple of other tours we booked (subsequently through Violet) ran like clock work. Violet arranged the transport/drivers (Kong was excellent in the hectic traffic and narrow roads) and for Michael (English speaking) to guide us for what turned out to be 2.5 days across Forbidden City, The Wall and The Summer Palace. Our party (three ~50yrs and two ~18yrs) are all of medium fitness and the climb to the wall was solid with due reward at the top and then the relatively easy walk along the top of the old section. Amazing scenery with an occasional other person and this was the start of Golden week - so as busy as it gets! There are some steep sections including the decent - Michael was patient and moved along at our pace. We never waited long for a pick up once we had finished any of the walks. Each afternoon he recommended excellent restaurants for us in close proximity to our hotel. Michael was knowledgeable about Chinese history and clearly a very experienced guide who tailored things to our interest. He developed good rapport with us and has a good sense of humour. We will recommend Violet, Beijing Tour Guide and Michael to our friends and family - they were excellent.

Phenomenal guide and tour
We originally planned a private tour of Jianguo to Mutianyu for two. Due to recent storms, the tour guide directed us to the wall in Jinshangling. Additionally, our party grew to six. They were extremely accommodating. The tour was phenomenal. We were not disappointed. Like most groups, there are varying degree of fitness with each person. Michael took care of each of us. I strongly recommend this tour service. Thank you for making this trip memorable.

Why this scores 84
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu cost?
+
Prices start at $48 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 78 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu?
+
Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Great Wall Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
