Do not take this tour

Tour company was awful and seemed completed unprepared for the excursion. We were not allowed to go on the gondola and the guide skipped Panmen Gate and the Suzhou Ancient Grand Canal experience. The guide also stated lunch was not included (as everything else she skipped that was included), but when we refused to pay for lunch, the company finally conceded lunch was included and paid the bill. Showing the tour guide our paperwork showing the included experiences did not help, she claimed her company didn’t agree to that. Also, we sat on bench and waited for the car to pick us up for almost an hour. We have never had a bad experience with Viator and enjoyed three other viator tours in China, but we cannot recommend this tour company at all.

Response from the operator: This trip was on the May 2nd, Chinese Labor holiday with tens of thousands of tourists everywhere, we agreed to add gondola on Suzhou Ancient Grand Canal, but there were too many tourists waiting in queue for the boat, finally we given up and we partial refunded the tour fee via viator, we paid the lunch mentioned, our tour guide and driver all worked almost 12 hours on that date, sorry for the experience in Chinese holiday. Skiping Chinese holidays will have much better travel experience in China.

+

On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Shanghai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Shanghai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
