It was here that Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, Albania’s greatest national hero, defended the country from the invasion of the Ottomans. The National Museum dedicated to the hero is housed in the famous Kruja Castle and shows both the legendary hero’s history and the traditional way of life of the city’s population. The city’s famous bazaar serves as a bridge between this glorious past and the present, offering a rich array of traditional products made from local artisans.

The Old Bazaar of Kruja is the most famous bazaar in the country, this place merits an immediate visit! In the dozens of shops and boutiques lined up in the streets, you will find traditional craftsmen selling and making their products. You can find countless traditional functional and artistic objects such as carpets, furniture, silverware, copper plates and ornaments, as well as many other souvenirs. Antique dealers and enthusiasts visit this bazaar as it offers many objects of interest. Kruja Castle
As you reach the end of the Bazaar, you will enter the slightly steep road towards the Castle of Kruja, the symbol of Albanian resistance against the Ottomans. It was here that Skanderbeg waved the Albanian flag for the very first time on November 28th, 1443 and where he, along with his army, successfully resisted the Ottoman forces for more than 25 years. As one of the country’s most important landmarks, this part of your day can focus on leisurely admiring this 5th century fortress and the museum within it.

The museums on the tour are very well done. A visit is worthwhile. The drive takes a bit long, and traffic jams are to be expected.

A nice day in Albania
It’s a long day, but worth it to see both places. Rozafa castle has nice ruins and is a beautiful viewpoint for the rivers and the lake. Kruje is a cute old town with a couple of museums and another gorgeous viewpoint from the “castle”, of which not much is left. Romeo was a great guide who taught us a lot about Albania and answered all of our questions. He was a safe driver who managed the traffic well.

Shkodra and Krujë
Well can’t say today’s tour was one of our favorites or best with Viator. The sites we saw were interesting but our guide seemed to be more engaged with his cell phone as he was with us. Even while driving he kept checking his cell phone. It didn’t help that it was Sunday so he changed the agenda due to things not being open. His car was also having an issue with the AC so it kept getting very hot in the car for periods. Suggest that they mention in the tour info that the walk up to castle and in the bazaar is on very slippery rocks.

Had a great time on this tour. This tour gives you a good overview of the places listed in the itinerary. What was great for us is that we didn’t feel rushed at all and the guide was very informative. The tour guide gave enough time on our own in the bazaar to shop it at our own pace. Would recommend as a great day trip out of Tirana
