A day trip to San Sebastián

My day started today with a sick husband who wasn’t going to be able to go on our reserved private San Sebastián tour. He insisted I go without him and enjoy myself. So, I did. I was picked up promptly by Juan Carlos in a big, clean and air conditioned van. The drive to San Sebastián was comfortable and really enjoyable. My tour guide was a great conversationalist and it was like we were old friends! We chatted all the way up and all the way back. The regular routed bakery was closed today but the tequila distillery was open so we decided to stop there for a bit of education and sampling. (Well I sampled!). Now, yes, it was 10:30 AM so I used a wine tasters trick and sipped only the smallest mouthful and spit the rest. It was top quality, smooth and offered some unusual flavours. I picked up a couple of sample packs for the “kids” (they’re adults…it’s ok!). The host knew his product as he is also the artist who makes it… Next we stopped at a chocolate shop and then the coffee plantation, where we did a little walk through and saw the beans growing amongst the other fauna. I picked up some items at both shops. The walk through San Sebastián was informative and a real step back in time. Juan Carlos knew his stuff and shared facts and tales. He helped step down the uneven stairs and warned me about the awkward walkways. The food at the restaurant was authentic and delicious. We stopped at a family operated silver shop where they offer handmade earrings, necklaces, rings and other things. I got myself some cute hoops and met the girl who made them. Loved it! We toured the church, town hall and prison. Juan Carlos took some photos of me in the surroundings. The drive home went all too quickly. We stopped at a different bakery on the way back and got some sweets and picked up some chicken soup to bring back to my husband. All in, it was a great day. I am very happy with the professionalism and courtesy that was bestowed upon me. I would recommend this service and my host any time. I’m sure we will book another tour and request Juan Carlos on our next trip to PV.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt and detailed review. We truly appreciate you choosing to still join the tour, and we’re very happy to hear the day turned into such a positive and memorable experience despite the circumstances. Juan Carlos will be especially grateful to know his care, knowledge, and attention made you feel comfortable, safe, and well looked after throughout the day. From San Sebastián’s history to the tastings, shops, and thoughtful stops along the way, it means a lot to know everything came together so nicely for you. We also hope your husband was happy to enjoy the soup and feeling better soon. Thank you for your trust, recommendation, and kind words. We’ll be more than happy to welcome you back on your next visit and arrange another tour with Juan Carlos. Let’s ride 🤙

Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.

How much does Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste cost?

    +

Prices start at $2000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.

Is Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Experience to San Sebastián del Oeste start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
