About this experience
During this private tour (from 2 people) in a comfortable air-conditioned car, you will visit Etna - the highest active volcano in Europe. This tour is private - only for your group, no one else, to ensure the highest standards for our clients. Your friendly private guide will tell you about how the volcano was formed, the history of the eruptions, the culture, myths and folklore of "Mama Etna" and Sicily itself. Driving through small, authentic mountain villages by private car, you will visit a local honey farm and taste the products of the volcano's fertile soil, finally arriving at 2,000 meters. Here you will visit the craters, admire unforgettable views and visit stores with lava souvenirs. At the end of the tour you will have lunch in a traditional "Trattoria" and taste organic food: salami, cheese, ham, eggplant in oil, olives, caponata and then "Pasta alla norma" with local wine and sicilian dessert.

What you'll see and do
Zafferana Etnea
Your friendly private English-speaking guide will provide insightful commentary on the formation of Etna volcano, its history of eruptions, as well as the rich culture, myths, and folklore surrounding "Mamma Etna" and Sicily itself. As you traverse through the quaint mountain villages in the privacy of your own car, you'll be treated to unforgettable panoramic views of the Sicilian countryside, adorned with orange and lemon orchards, olive and almond groves, and charming houses and churches constructed from lava stone. Our first stop will be in Zafferana Etnea, a picturesque village nestled on the slopes of Etna, renowned for its delicious honey. Here, you'll have the chance to visit a local honey store and sample a variety of products cultivated from the fertile volcanic terrain, including honey, olive oil, olives, wines, and liquors.

Mount Etna
Continuing our ascent of Mount Etna, we'll reach the "Rifugio Sapienza" station situated at 2000 meters above sea level. Here, you can marvel at the famous Silvestri Craters, take in breathtaking panoramas, browse souvenir shops offering lava-themed gifts, or indulge in refreshments at one of the nearby bars or restaurants. For those seeking an extra thrill, there's the option to ascend to 3000 meters with a cable car and jeep, accompanied by an authorized Alpine guide. For logistic reasons, for guests travelling from Messina Port, we offer for a visit of the Sartorius Craters (1600 mt.) located on the North Side of Mt. Etna, which is one of the most authentic areas. We recommend wearing comfortable closed-toe shoes and bringing extra layers, such as something warm and a windbreaker or rain jacket, to be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Highly personalized Sicily
Our Tourguide Omar is clearly an expert in the area. He is also highly safety conscious. We had an excellent and reasonable visit. At the mountain we encountered a small lightning storm and Omar was careful to manage that for us. He has a wide breath of knowledge about Sicilian and Italian culture. The visit to the winery was truly the exceptional part of the whole tour. Dino and Antonio are classic traditional Sicilian hosts. We are very grateful to their hospitality. This is a very personalized tour.

Great tour with the perfect lunch.
Originally we had wanted to reach the area of 2000 metres. Due to a copious amount of snow which had fallen the previous week, the roads at the top were all closed as they were not used to so much snow. Our guide, Alberto, took us to another beautiful spot around the north side of Etna, this part had no other tourists which was lovely, it felt very exclusive. Alberto is a geology student at University and was very knowledgeable about the age of each larva flow and the flora and fauna. Even my 12 year old son enjoyed his information and enthusiasm for the area. We stopped en route to try a traditional delicious cannoli in a lovely cafe. After our hike, Alberto drove us to a great traditional restaurant which was like a farm. The food was fantastic, it was so fresh and the atmosphere was rustic and authentic. We would highly recommend this tour if you like something more genuine.

Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Taormina.
How much does Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food cost?
+
Prices start at $100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Taormina usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Taormina is not rushed.
Is Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Taormina, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Taormina can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Taormina and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Etna tour with lunch in traditional "Trattoria" with organic food start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Taormina within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Taormina?
+
On Outty we rank every Taormina experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mt. Etna and Taormina village full day tour from Catania, Mount Etna Half-Day Small Group Tour from Taormina, COOKING CLASS in Taormina at Chef Massimo HOUSE!!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Taormina?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Taormina?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
