Harris was a decent guide, and Nanxun is a pretty place
We enjoyed our trip to Nanxun, and felt that Harris was a pretty decent guide. He brought us to eat some cheap local food in Shanghai before heading to Nanxun, and did a decent job of explaining some historical details about the place, although it kind of felt like a smattering of random knowledge as opposed to a cohesive historical narrative; and while he made sense most of the time we felt like he couldn't fully answer some of our questions while we were there—however, since a place like Nanxun is not thoroughly covered by online English informational resources, his explanations were welcome nonetheless. Since I åccidentally forgot something at the hotel, we lost about an hour for the tour, so it also ended up feeling really rushed, but overall we had fun and felt that Harris adapted to the situation and was a helpful enough guide. The place was worthwhile to have a less crowded, more authentic feeling visit to a water town.

Tour was good, but I expected Nanxun...

Tour was good, but I expected Nanxun to be Chinese Venice and it is not.
Too little time on the boat, mostly walking tours and ride from and to Shanghai is more than an hour one direction. Or even longer.

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Shanghai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
