The sleepy but trendy district of Bairro Alto transforms into a lively bohemian paradise by night, and is one of the best places to eat and drink in Lisbon. Thanks to its central location and proximity to the city’s principal sights, Bairro Alto has a higher number of restaurants (in one of which we will eat) than any other district in Lisbon. From contemporary, authentic and traditional Portuguese food, to fusion cooking and rare local specialities.

Alfama
Alfama is Lisbon's most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views. Because its foundation is dense bedrock, it survived the 1755 earthquake, and a walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time. It's a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with tile panels and wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds.

Similar to Bairro Alto, the vibe in Cais do Sodré is similarly bohemian. Do not bother turning up anywhere much before midnight, as this is when the crowds descend. If you want to get a full taste of the area, here are a few of the neighbourhood's hottest bars and live music venues, perfect for a late-night bar crawl.

Rua da Bica
Bica is one of the city’s most traditional neighborhoods, known for its small bars and the funicular that runs through it which has been going up and down the hill since 1892. This tiny neighborhood, surrounded by Chiado, Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré was founded in 1597, after a land slide. It was firstly inhabited by fishermen and it´s made of narrow streets with stairs and cobbled stones. In here you can find Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo, which is in the top ten of the most beautiful streets in Europe.

Disappointed in the last minute cancellation.
The tour was cancelled at the last minute, but we didn't find that out until we had waited around at what we thought was the meeting point for a while. Tried to call the number on the reservation and it was a disconnected number. We finally found an e-mail notifying us of the cancellation, then the tour operator was blaming us for their cost to send someone to meet us to tell us the tour was cancelled. How about just not cancelling the tour next time...
Response from the operator: Dear Michael. We are sorry that has hapenned. As you can verify from all the other reviews that is not our standard. The tour had been POSTPONED PENDING YOUR AGREEMENT 2 hours before it was due to begin. Maybe you also didnt know but there was an orange weather alert and authorities recommended the suspension of outdoor activities SUCH AS WALKING TOURS. I imagine that there were a lot of cancellations throughout the country over those days. We messaged you through the platform as we assumed that you would be monitoring the emails as most people do especially when they have an appointment booked online... In our message we suggested alternative dates/times. We didnt just "cancel". Since we didnt hear back from you, we had someone go to the meeting point (with a sign) to meet you and go ahead with the tour so that you would not be left stranded. Our number is a whatsapp number - as it is normal nowadays especially for communications between international numbers -since we do not make or receive international calls on our mobile phones. We tried to contact you on the platform and whatsapp, no reply. Lisbon walking and tapas tour
Our first night in Lisbon was perfect! We had such fun with Catarina, who gave us a complete tour of the area. She answered all of our questions and made us feel so welcome in the beautiful city of Lisbon. The restaurant was equally as fun. Luis even reached out the next day to see if he could help us with the remainder of our trip. We definitely recommend this tour!

Nice evening program in old Lisbon
Great tour with Luis. Showed us the old neighbourhood s of Lisbon with interesting historical insights and a great sense of humour. We ended up in a cool tasca where we had tapas and drinks and had a great time. Great evening program!
