Our family of 6 had a wonderful time. My kids loved the boat ride and snorkeling at Captain Cook bay. The captain was great. He told us a lot of history about the island and showed some caves and rock formations. It was truly a wonderful experience. Highly recommend it.

Best snorkeling experience on Big Island

This is a must do. With 6 people it is just a little bit more than you would spend on one of the bigger boats with way more people. My wife and I went with friends and their adult daughter and it was worth the price for 5! The husband and wife that run the charter are awesome. They are super friendly and knowledgeable about the island. They brought their son on our trip and he was adorable. Skip the bigger boats and get a private snorkeling trip.

An Absolute Hidden Gem — Best Private Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling Charter on the Big Island!

Kaleo and Leila are truly something special. If you’re even considering this tour, don’t think twice because this was hands down one of the best experiences of our entire trip. I had been searching for the perfect snorkeling experience and honestly, this listing almost sounded too good to be true, so I called with a few questions and ended up speaking with Kaleo and Leila. They were so warm, welcoming, and genuine that my mom and I booked on the spot. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we were spending the day with family. They go above and beyond to make the experience personal, comfortable, and unforgettable. I had mentioned beforehand that my mom was a bit hesitant about swimming, and they actually remembered; Kaleo even offered for Leila to snorkel herself alongside my brother and I to ease my mom's anxiety. She didn’t just join, she brought a GoPro and captured incredible footage of my brother and me in the water, which we now get to relive forever! At no point did we feel rushed. The entire experience is fully customized, and they truly care about what you want to do. Whether it’s finding marine life, learning about the island, or just enjoying the moment, they make it happen. Kaleo is an incredible storyteller. The way he shares Hawaiian history, culture, and his own life growing up on the island adds so much depth to the experience. It’s meaningful, immersive, and authentic. Even with a storm forecast making us think our activities would all be cancelled, they monitored the weather and made sure we could safely go out early and still enjoy everything without missing out. When the water got a bit rough later, Kaleo handled it like a pro, steering safe, and still making stops along the coast to show us sea caves, landscapes, lava tubes, and share more history. The boat itself is comfortable and shaded, the group size is small and intimate, and the snorkeling gear is top quality. They had snacks, drinks, and were attentive to every detail. This was personal, private, and unforgettable between the memories, the stories, and the footage they captured for us, this is something we’ll cherish forever :) Do not miss out on this experience!

    Once in a lifetime!

Amazing trip with owner Kaleo and group of our friends. Did an 5,5h trip with him, stopping by at several spots to snorkel, explore big islands wildlife and learn about the history. 100% authentic, extremely flexible in working with us as a group and super supportive. If you want to to experience a trip, a local showing you his paradise, this is the trip to go. Furthermore wildlife treated us very well. Humpbacks, pilot whales, dolphins, Monck seals, shark, turtles. It was a blast.

Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Big Island of Hawaii.

How much does Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling cost?

    +

Prices start at $799 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Big Island of Hawaii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling take?

    +

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Big Island of Hawaii is not rushed.

Is Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Big Island of Hawaii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Big Island of Hawaii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Big Island of Hawaii and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Charter Custom Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Big Island of Hawaii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

The Big Island is volcano country: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tours, Mauna Kea summit stargazing, night manta ray snorkels off Kona, Waipio Valley lookouts and coffee farm visits. Summit tours have real altitude rules, so we weight safety detail. On Outty we rank every Big Island of Hawaii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include KONA Manta Ray Night Snorkel - FREE re-ride if no Sightings, Big Island in a Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing and History, Big Island: Captain Cook Snorkel On A Power Catamaran With Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

April to October, though the island runs year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
