Great Tour & Person
Cindy was amazing. Prompt, well dressed, amazing English and clean car. She was so chilled and patient not rushing us and gave us plenty of time to do our own thing. Took us to amazing sites within Shanghai as part of the tour. Really explained to us the history of shanghai and the lifestyle. In the evening tour she showed us some historical and modern places, taking us to amazing restaurants as well. The tour was so personalised honestly it felt we were life long friends catching up in her home town. Amazing and highly recommended.

Contact driver directly for best result
Ok I was not sure if to hire this company, because some of drivers don't speak any English. But after much research I was very luck. I found that there is one English speaking driver with the company, but if you book thru their site, you never know who might show up. Best is to contact this driver directly. His name is Michael and WhatUp app is the easiest way to connect. His mobile/WhatsApp number is +86 139 1720 2442 It was an amazing experience. Imagine being stuck with driver who don't speak English.

Easy tour with own schedule and stops arrangements.
We reserved car for 2 for 8 hours. Started in time at 9 a.m. from our hotel ended at Pudong airport. Car was Tesla. It was nice tour within Shanghai with a few stops from half to 2 hours for own sightseeing , shopping and photography. We are planning to use this company in next year planned tour. Thank you Cindy!!!

Highly Recommended English Speaking Private Driver
Especially for English-speakers, I wanted to highly recommend Michael. Michael is a driver I met through an established global service who like most drivers also has his own business on the side. He spoke excellent English, was incredibly helpful and very flexible. He drove me to two different appointments in Shanghai and was spot on time for both plus I changed a pick-up time earlier with total ease and instant response given that he is also on WhatsApp, which is a rarity for most Chinese. Michael not only provides airport transfers and intra-city rides, he is also open to providing half-day and full-day rides or tours around Shanghai at rates that are very reasonable. I can’t recommend him enough and plan to use him for all of my future trips here. His mobile/WhatsApp number is +86 139 1720 2442.
Response from the operator: Our company never hire Michael as our driver. Please don't post your adz under my listing.

Really Terrible Experience
This experience was the worst part of our trip, and we would like to respectfully request a partial refund. The description online indicated that the driver would have online English translation. This was not revealed by our driver until almost 2 hours into the experience, which meant we struggled to communicate where to go at the start of our trip. We provided an itinerary ahead of time, but this was clearly not given to our driver. We attempted to explain where we wanted to go, but it became apparent that he was not understanding as we drove far past the Bund and he eventually had to swerve across 3 lanes of traffic to exit and try to double back to the Bund. Our driver then entered the wrong parking garage that was only for buses, and we wasted a significant chunk of our limited layover time on these two snafus. Next up, we attempted to communicate the restaurant where we wanted to eat after the Bund. Our driver finally pulled out his translation app to say he would take us somewhere better. We agreed and he drove us to his destination, which ended up being in a shopping mall and ended up being closed. Again, this wasted over 45 minutes of our time. One of our main frustrations the whole day with our driver was that he seemed unable to follow basic signage and way finding, even in Chinese. Each time we left the car in a parking garage, he could not find the exit despite being able to read the language of the signs, and we had to find our own way. Then when we would return, he could never find the car and we always had to find it for him. I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think our driver had done this before and he didn't seem to be any older than 18 years old. Overall, this was an absolutely horrible experience. We ended up eating at a random dumpling shop on the side of the road because after all the time wasted there was no time to eat at any of the places we wanted to see. We request a partial refund, as this experience was nowhere near worth the money and we never should have booked. We are extremely disappointed and thank you for your consideration.
Response from the operator: Hello, Maria First of all we are apologize that makes you unhappy experience. As our message record that you request visit the bund, East Nanjing Rd and Xintiandi. The car service is 4 hours from airport pick up and drop off in the Maglev train station. Actually return airport need 2 hours on road and you have only limit 2 hours to do sightseeing in city center. Driver take you to the bund and East Nanjing Rd. And it almost maximum site you can do in 2 hours. The day you touring was in the period of China international Import Expo. And that’s why some place is limited to be enter. And even some road is restrict. Please understand our driver doesn’t speak good English and we notice it in the itinerary. We provide English assistant online and we notice driver the place you want to go before the tour. Because this is just a car service and driver is not tour guide. So it’s impossible to expect he can do tour guide job. We feel so sorry for all your inconvenience.

Why this scores 51
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Car Service with Driver: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.
How much does Private Car Service with Driver cost?
+
Prices start at $139 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Car Service with Driver take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.
Is Private Car Service with Driver worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Car Service with Driver?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Car Service with Driver suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Car Service with Driver?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Car Service with Driver start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Shanghai?
+
On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Shanghai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Shanghai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
