About this experience

About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil. We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a fresh water lagoon. On this tour it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year). Depending on the availability of boats, there is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. We float in a truly unique setting, listening to the sounds of nature, among mangroves, orchids & bromeliads. A calming experience like nothing you have experienced before.

Highly recommend!

What an amazing experience we had! We went with Miguel as we had an interest in birding and he is an amazing guide. One of the best we have ever had. It was a great family expeience. The lazy river float was WAY better than expected, and ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. I highly recommend Miguel and the rest of the group! I did a second, private birding tour also with Mexico Kan that was equally great. Both guides were very professional and fun to be with.

Response from the operator: Thank you for such a wonderful review! We're especially happy to hear that your birding experience with Miguel stood out—he’ll be thrilled to know he ranks among your best guides. It’s great that the whole family enjoyed it, and even better that the lazy river float exceeded expectations! We’re also glad you joined us for a second, more specialized tour. It means a lot to earn your trust more than once. Hope to see you again for more nature adventures!

Amazing time, highly recommend!

This was such a great tour. Our guides, Moises and Emiliano, were absolutely fantastic, enthusiastic, and skilled. We saw loads of cool birds. We got hit by some pretty hard rain but we made the best of it and were still able to find unique birds during the rain. This is absolutely worth getting up early for, and I would recommend to anyone who has any interest in birding and/or seeing Sian Ka'an.

Response from the operator: Your review is so full of energy and appreciation—thank you for sharing! It sounds like Moises and Emiliano made your tour absolutely fantastic with their enthusiasm, skill, and positive attitude, even when the weather threw a curveball with hard rain. Their ability to find unique birds despite the conditions shows their expertise and dedication—that’s what makes a tour truly special! Getting up early to explore Sian Ka’an and spot loads of cool birds is clearly worth every minute, especially with guides who bring so much passion to the experience. Your strong recommendation is the best endorsement for anyone interested in birding or discovering this stunning reserve. If you ever return, we’d love to welcome you back for more unforgettable adventures with Moises and Emiliano!

We were lucky to see most species on our list including the Keel-billed toucan, Collared aracari, Lesson’s Motmot and many more. Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.

How much does Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil cost?

+

Prices start at $174 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.

Is Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil?

+

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Birdwatching Tour in Sian Ka'an Muyil start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tulum?

+

On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tulum?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tulum?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
