The Valley of Thor, or Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) in Icelandic, is a nature reserve in the southern highlands, located between three glaciers; Eyjafjallajökull (the famous glacier volcano that erupted in 2010 and caused widespread disruption to air traffic in Europe), Mýrdalsjökull and Tindfjallajökull. Þórsmörk is a place of diverse and magnificent landscape with its ice capped peaks, jagged mountain ridges and valleys rich with moss and birch woodland. Þórsmörk is a paradise for hikers, photographers and nature lovers. The route to Þórsmörk has many unbridged rivercrossings with deep fast flowing waters, famous for trapping tourists in un-modified rental cars. Therefore we take you to Þórsmörk in one of our super jeeps, a modified vehicle with huge tyres that can forge rivers and tackle just about any terrain. Riding in a Super jeep is an adventure on its own. Beautiful Surroundings of Thorsmork is a Super Jeep tour with an optional easy/moderate 90 minute hike.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. This 66m (213ft) high waterfall is not the most powerful waterfall in Iceland but extremely beautiful. What makes it special, though, is the fact that you can walk behind it. Just remember to bring rain gear with you because it is not unlikely that spray from the waterfall will catch you.

      30 minutes here

    2. Volcano Eyjafjallajokull

By now you have entered the beautiful Surroundings of Þórsmörk. Gígjökull is an outlet that flows from Eyjafjallajökull. Previously, there was a glacial lagoon underneath the glacier, which was one of the gems of Þórsmörk, but it got destroyed in the famous 2010 Eyjafjalla volcanic eruption. therefore today it is possible to drive on the former bottom of the lagoon almost up to the glacier.

      30 minutes here

    3. Here we hike! Hiking up Valahnúkur is relatively easy 220m (722ft) ascent hike and takes about an hour and a half. When you are up there you are standing in an elevation of around 1000m (3300ft) with a spectacular view over valleys and gorges covered with moss and birch forest, glacial rivers and the glaciers Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull.

      120 minutes here

    4. Thorsmork

Básar - The hikers wonderland Básar is one of the most beautiful and sheltered areas in the Þórsmörk – an oasis of natural birch woods. It is a wonderland for hikers with hiking trails and paths in all directions, through valleys and gorges with delicate birch forest, glacial rivers and magnificent mountain scenery.

    Lorenzo and Þórsmörk

Had an absolutely amazing day exploring Þórsmörk with our guide, Lorenzo! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this tour and would gladly book another adventure with both Lorenzo and the company in the future.

    Fantastic Þórsmörk daytour

Had a great day tour with Tomas / Glaciers & Waterfalls to the Þórsmörk area with super jeep. Originally I booked the Landmannalaugar tour, but as roads were still closed, Glaciers and Waterfalls offered a full day tour with several stops and hikes to the Þórsmörk area. The tour was fantastic and Tomas is a perfect and very friendly and helpful guide and driver. Highly recommendable!!

Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.

How much does Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor cost?

    +

Prices start at $1,165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.

Is Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 51 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?

    +

On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Silfra Snorkeling Between Continents Photos Included- Self Drive, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Reykjavik?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor?

    +

Included: Wifi on board. Not included: Dinner. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 1 listed pickup location in and around Reykjavik. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time.

What languages is Private Beautiful Thorsmork, The Valley of Thor offered in?

    +

It runs in English. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
