What you get
About this experience
Join Fusina, your fun and knowledgeable local host, for a food and market tour in Amsterdam that ends with a hands-on Dutch pancake session in her canal house overlooking the Amstel River. Explore the Albert Cuyp market and enjoy tastings at 4–5 stops featuring Dutch favorites like fresh stroopwafels, Dutch herring with pickles, and artisanal cheeses as you learn about local culture. During your 1.5–2-hour tour, choose Fusina's favorite apples at the market and pick up smoked bacon from a local butcher — then head to her charming home for an interactive finale: a Dutch pancake-making session. Learn to prepare both sweet and savory pannenkoeken with apples and with bacon from southern Dutch pigs, cured and smoked by a local butcher. Cook and enjoy the pancakes in her cozy kitchen, sipping a glass of Dutch white wine served in vintage crystal glasses passed down from her grandmother. A special toast with Fusina marks the joyful conclusion of this authentic Amsterdam food experience.

Fusina is the best host!
Fusina is a true gem of a person! She met us promptly at our meeting time, and showed us such genuine hospitality throughout the tour. She knew everyone at the farmers market and her hosting space is cozy. Fusina is highly knowledgable about her country's history and the food grown/dishes served. This was my favorite tour in Amsterdam.

It’s about so much more than a meal
We enjoyed a delightful evening with Fusina. She welcomed us into her lovely home with a beautiful view over the Amstel canal. She was engaging, well travelled, and shared information about Amsterdam, and changes in the area over the years. Fusina is a very interesting person! She is well connected in the local food culture, fresh food markets, sourcing of local products and seasonality. Beyond the welcomed conversation, she shared a traditional Dutch meal with Dutch wine. We also shared in making a danish pancake, including flipping it (and no we didn’t drop it)! The experience was about more than a meal, it was wonderful to escape the tourist feel of Amsterdam, and step into a locals home and engage about the area and much more.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're thrilled to hear that your time with Fusina felt like so much more than just a meal — that’s exactly the kind of authentic, local connection we aim to create. Your kind words truly mean a lot to us and to Fusina. It sounds like your review may be for Fusina’s other experience, but we're so grateful nonetheless. This particular food tour now includes a pancake-making class as well, and we’re delighted you had such a memorable time!

Rushed experience, little information given and definitely not worth almost €100 each.
While the guide wasn’t rude, I wouldn’t say she was fun either. We didn’t start our tour until 2:15 and it ended at 3:50, so it was about an hour and a half, not 2-3hrs as listed. The tour felt very rushed and we didn’t really hear a lot about the history or anything past a few comments on what the foods were that we tried. I wish we’d saved our money and just gone to the market ourselves. The food was mostly shared and couldn’t have cost more that €20 each, meaning we paid €70 each to be rushed around for an hour and a half. Don’t do it.
Response from the operator: Hi Jenn, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'm truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We take reviews very seriously and contacted Fusina to understand what happened and why you didn't receive the experience that was expected. After speaking with Fusina, our host in Amsterdam, I wanted to share a bit of context. Fusina mentioned that she was unaware you had arrived, as she later discovered you were waiting across the street and had not rung the doorbell. She routinely checks outside about 10–15 minutes before the experience begins to welcome guests, and regrets that this miscommunication led to a delay in starting the tour. Regarding the tastings, Fusina typically offers guests the option to have individual portions or to share, since the tour includes six different treats—often more than enough for most guests. She’s sorry if that wasn’t clearly communicated and will be sure to clarify it more going forward. Fusina also recalled having conversations with you during the market walk, sharing insights into Dutch food, shopping habits, and her personal cooking experiences, while doing her best to engage both you and your partner. We are sorry that this didn’t come across in the way she intended. As a result of your feedback and a continued desire to provide truly memorable, cultural experiences, Fusina has added a Dutch pancake-making class in her home at the end of the food tour. This addition allows guests to enjoy a satisfying, hands-on culinary activity in her charming canal house, and ensures that everyone leaves feeling full and connected to Dutch culture in an authentic way. We’re always looking to improve, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to help us do so. Please don’t hesitate to reach out (reservations@travelingspoon.com) if you’d like to discuss further.

A lovely afternoon in Amsterdam
Our host, Fusina, was warm and generous with her time and her knowledge of food and The Netherlands! It was a sunny, warm day and we strolled through town and the market and Fusina told us about Amsterdam’s food, history and culture. The food was delicious and I even enjoyed pickled herring! We had a very nice time.

Why this scores 53

Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Amsterdam.
How much does Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local cost?
+
Prices start at $139 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Amsterdam usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local take?
+
Plan for about 2.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Amsterdam is not rushed.
Is Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Amsterdam, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Amsterdam can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Amsterdam and add a light layer if any part of the 2.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Amsterdam Food Tour & Dutch Pancake Class with a Local start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Amsterdam within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?
+
On Outty we rank every Amsterdam experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Local Guide and Small Group, Guided Bike Tour of Amsterdam's Highlights & Hidden Gems, Amsterdam: Luxury Canal Cruise including Cocktails & Snacks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Amsterdam?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
