An Incredible Tour of Acadia, Bar Harbor, and MDI

If you are looking to hit the “easy button” and have a no hassle visit to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and the rest of Mount Desert Island, you have found the right tour! I knew that I wanted to experience Acadia as part of my trip to Maine. As I started planning and looking up reviews, though, it became pretty obvious that parking and logistics during the summer months may make it difficult to see everything I wanted to see and have a pleasant experience, especially since seeing the Bass Harbor Lighthouse was high on my list. I also injured my foot after I booked my trip, so I was looking for a way to be able to experience as much of Acadia and MDI as I could while not having to worry about my mobility issues if I had to take a bus or park my rental car far away. Enter Pete! Pete was able to arrange an incredible six-hour tour around my atypical requests (like seeing the lighthouse) but also showing me some of his favorite parts of Acadia, Martha Stewart’s lobster roll of choice, and some of the more conventional Acadia attractions. I didn’t have to worry about driving, parking, snacks, water, an umbrella, binoculars, etc. - Pete had everything prepared in his vehicle. It is clear that Pete is very passionate about Acadia history, flora, fauna, wildlife, park conservation, etc. He provided me with so much information about the island and the park and even had some lighthouse-specific content prepared for me since he knew I was curious about that - the six hour tour flew by! If this description hasn’t convinced you enough, I also want to highlight how professional Pete was. He promptly responded to email questions I had and even took the time to speak with me on the phone about options, pricing, logistics, etc. before I had booked a trip with him. He was prompt in arriving at my hotel and provided me with several recommendations both before I got to Maine as well as what would make sense for me to do after our tour. There are more affordable options for tours in Acadia - especially for a solo traveler - but the value Pete provided during the trip was well worth the expense. I tried to explore parts of Acadia on my own the next day and it truly was not the same and a lot of what I had heard would happen (traffic, difficulty parking, etc.) happened and detracted from the experience. Without question, my trip to Bar Harbor would have been a lot different (and likely worse) had I not booked this tour.

A Wonderful Day in Acadia National Park

Our full-day tour with Pete at Scenic Acadia Tours was the highlight of our trip. Pete was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He made the tour informative and fun, and my family highly recommends Scenic Acadia Tours to anyone visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

    Awesome Acadia Experience

My family and I booked the 6 hour tour with scenic Acadia tours. Pete was an AWESOME tour guide. He obviously loves what he does. He was very knowledgeable about Acadia and the surrounding areas. This private tour was SO much better than the tour buses with 40 of your closest friends. He let us meander around when we wanted to and was very accommodating with schedules. We would give him 12 out of 10 stars.

    Best Tour Ever!!!!

I cannot speak more highly of Pete and Scenic Acadia Tours. We spent an amazing day touring not only Acadia but also all of Mount Desert Island. He was able to get us into all the extremely crowded spots with minimal effort (on our part!) and took us to more off the beaten path sections so we could really experience the park without the crowds. His passion for Maine and MDI was apparent in all the stories and history he shared as we toured. His knowledge is absolutely inexhaustible! Moreover he generously helped me plan the other days of our trip and provided a wonderful itinerary for us to follow as we drove up to Bar Harbor from Porstmouth. If you're on the fence, get off and book a tour with Pete/Scenic Acadia Tours. You won't regret it!!!

“Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bar Harbor.

How much does “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours) cost?

    +

Prices start at $1095 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bar Harbor usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours) take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bar Harbor is not rushed.

Is “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours) worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bar Harbor, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours)?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours) suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours)?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bar Harbor can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bar Harbor and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does “Private Acadia” & Mount Desert Island Tour (full day, six hours) start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bar Harbor within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bar Harbor?

    +

Bar Harbor is Acadia National Park access: Park Loop and Cadillac Mountain tours, carriage road bike rides, lobster boat trips, puffin cruises and sea kayaking. Cadillac sunrise reservations are the detail most listings miss. On Outty we rank every Bar Harbor experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Narrated Bus Tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (3.5 Hours), Narrated Bus Tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Guided Ebike Tour of Acadia National Park Carriage Roads. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bar Harbor?

    +

June to October, with autumn colour in early October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bar Harbor?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
