About this experience
Creating your own tlayuda in our gastronomic experience is a journey of unique and personalized flavor. From the moment you select the ingredients to the moment you taste your creation, you are immersed in a fusion of tradition and creativity. The base of the tlayuda, a large, crunchy tortilla, becomes the canvas for your tastes. You can choose from a variety of meats, local cheeses like Quesillo, and fresh vegetables. By roasting it, our expert team gives it that smoky and crunchy touch that defines tlayuda, while you enjoy our selected drinks, from rich coffees to craft beers. This process is not just a meal, but a celebration of Oaxacan culinary culture, adapted to your palate. In the end, sitting in our cozy cafeteria or terrace, each bite is a reflection of your preferences, uniting the traditional with the personal in an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

Do Not Book! Waste of your time!!!!!
DO NOT BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE. We booked a cooking lesson through this listing and unfortunately the experience never even happened. We arrived at the location around 12:05 PM, which was during the listed operating hours, only to find the restaurant completely closed. We knocked on the door and rang the doorbell, and someone eventually told us that this was not even the correct location for the cooking class. We then tried calling the phone number provided in the booking details multiple times and received no answer. At that point we contacted Viator for help, but even they were unable to reach the host or get any response. Needless to say, we ended up canceling the experience and are now waiting for a refund. It was incredibly frustrating, especially while traveling and looking forward to this activity. Having plans fall apart like this wastes valuable vacation time. This experience felt extremely unorganized and honestly like a fake listing. Save yourself the frustration and book something else.

Good cooking experience making Tlayudas
Great little class held in the courtyard of a hotel. We wanted to know more about tlayudas and how to make them. We learned all about the ingredients, and then made our own tlayudas, salsa, and guacamole. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. The class was short but that was what we were looking for. For a quick informative activity this was great.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed our class in the courtyard of the hotel. It’s great to hear that you learned about the ingredients and had the chance to make your own tlayudas, salsa, and guacamole. Our team always strives to be nice and accommodating, and we’re pleased that the class met your expectations for a quick and informative activity. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class cost?
+
Prices start at $27 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private 2-Hour Tlayuda Preparation Class start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
