Serra de Agua
Serra de Água's name is derived from the historical construction of a watermill used for sawmilling, that was named serra de água, and later became applied to the entire parish. Wood was the first of livelihood and income for the early settlers to Madeira, and due to the abundance of vegetation in Serra de Água the sawmills, commercial exportation of wood was very profitable.

A new road traverses the 1004 m high Encumeada pass. Starting in Ribeira Brava at the south coast, the road winds up to Serra d’Água (which was the island’s first water power station) and arrives at the top of the valley giving incredible views of both the south and the north coast.

Sao Vicente
Most of the rustic manor houses go back to the XVIII century, a time of economic relief and comfort, due to the good fortunes of viticulture. These gigantic houses were very ostentatious and consisted of two levels: on the first floor the winepress, the agricultural implements and the products of the harvests were kept; the second floor was the noble part of the house and the access was made through an outdoor staircase.

Great trip, just check where you will be sat!
This was a great trip, however just check the seating arrangements, I am over 6ft and was asked to sit on the child seat at the back of the discovery… pretty impossible, others would not change seats and it did seam a first come first serve issue. They did transfer my party to another vehicle which was open topped, but still the child seat at the back, this worked out ok as I could at least sit up straight.. the tour is great and I would recommend as the guide was fantastic and the locations amazing.

Porto Moniz and Fanal Forest 4x4
The tour was absolutely amazing. We got picked up on time at our hotel and then drove to Sao Vincente. There we made a short coffee break before it went off-road until we reached a height of 1600m with a beautiful view. On the way our driver Luís Castro let us smell the different local plants like Eucalyptus, Fennel etc. Furthermore we made a quick stopp to walk along a Levada until we reached a handmade tunel. The off-road part offers many beautiful views on the green valley. It was quite bumpy, but our driver drove carfully and tried to make it as comfortable as possible and with seatbelt it was no problem. The next stop was at Fanal Forest. The driver was very patiently there even though weren‘t back on time. Then we had lunch break at the natural pool of Port Moniz, were we could go swimming and at the end the natural pool in Seixal. We have booked the german tour and Communication was absolutely no problem, the dirver could speak german fluently. The tour was absolutely fun with our small cool group of six person plus driver sitting on the back of a open jeep.

Fun day exploring the north part of the Island.
I really enjoyed my tour. Pick up was easy, guide was great! Scenery fantastic and we got to hike a few times and swim twice. I would recommend!!
