Agency confirmed the tour and just didn't show up

I booked the tour Portillo + Laguna del Inca with the agency Discover Santiago on TripAdvisor and had an extremely negative experience. From the beginning, communication has failed. The agency did not contact at any time after the purchase. I tried several times on WhatsApp and also on the TripAdvisor platform, without return. Only after a lot of insistence I received a confusing answer, stating that the tour was confirmed, but without providing basic information such as schedule or details of the service. As the date approached, I tried to confirm again and got no response. On the eve of the tour, when it is standard to receive the final confirmation with the search time, I did not receive any messages. I questioned the agency, but I was again ignored, although there are records confirming that they would do the transport. On the day of the tour, I woke up at 3am for a scheduled exit at 5am. I stayed waiting for more than three hours at the front desk, sent messages, called the agency repeatedly, and got no answer. The transport never showed up. No explanation was given. What makes the situation even worse is that, even after two days, the agency has not contacted to justify what happened, apologize or offer any explanation. They simply completely ignored the problem. It was an experience marked by disorganization, lack of respect and total lack of commitment to the client. I lost time, money, rest and a whole day of my trip. I do not recommend this agency and leave this report as a warning for other travellers.

They didn't show up, ignored messages and calls: an awful experience.

I hired the Portillo + Laguna del Inca tour with Discover Santiago on TripAdvisor, but the experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Since the hiring, communication has been virtually nonexistent. Nobody came into contact with me spontaneously. I sent several messages via WhatsApp (four times) and the TripAdvisor platform itself (two times) without any response. It was only after insisting a lot on WhatsApp that I received a vague and strange response, saying that the tour was confirmed — no details, no schedule and no professionalism. Even so, I remained suspicious and, as the date approached, I tried to confirm again. I didn't get an answer. The day before the tour, when the agencies normally send the final confirmation with search time, I simply did not receive any information. I asked directly and, once again, I was ignored. Still, I have recorded messages in which the agency itself confirms that they're going to pick me up. I woke up at 3am for a tour that would start at 5am, I waited for more than three hours at the reception, I sent messages throughout this time, I called the agency several times and I was completely ignored. Nobody showed up. No explanation. No satisfaction. A total disagreement with the client. The tour was not cheap, and yet the treatment was as if they were doing a favor. The worst is that, even after two days, the agency did not contact at any time to justify not appearing, apologize or even explain why I was ignored. Absolutely no return. The feeling is total incompetence, lack of respect and zero commitment to what they sell. I lost time, money, sleep and a whole day of travel. I do not recommend this agency in any way. I leave this report to warn other travellers not to go through the same situation.

Excellent experience

The trip was super good, the guide Nicolás super fun and friendly. In addition, we had the opportunity and have a great picnic in group. It was sensational, I tell everyone.

Portillo + Laguna del Inca: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santiago.

How much does Portillo + Laguna del Inca cost?

+

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santiago usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Portillo + Laguna del Inca take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santiago is not rushed.

Is Portillo + Laguna del Inca worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santiago, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Portillo + Laguna del Inca?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Portillo + Laguna del Inca suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Portillo + Laguna del Inca?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santiago can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santiago and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Portillo + Laguna del Inca start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santiago within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Santiago?

+

On Outty we rank every Santiago experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Maipo Valley Wine Tour with 4 vineyards from Santiago., Valparaiso Port and Viña del Mar with Casablanca Wine Tasting, Santiago: Valparaiso, Viña del Mar & Casablanca Wine Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Santiago?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Santiago?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
