    Highly recommend visiting

This is a review for the Pompeii & Herculaneum full day tour booked through Jet2.com whilst we were staying in Sorrento. Well worth doing this tour, our guide Francesco was excellent and very knowledgeable and it was very well organised. Pick up from our hotel was at 7:30am. When we arrived at Pompeii we had time to go to the toilets and sort out radios and headphones so our guide could talk to us. We had 2 hours to be showed around and we entered about 9:30am and it wasn't too busy or too hot at that time. Be warned there is no shade once in the site, there are no facilities and it can get very hot. Wear comfortable shoes as there is lots of walking, bring water and possibly a hat. Pompeii is huge, so don't expect to be able to see everything. We were guided around and our guide told us that they have only unearthed approximately 30% of the site so far and even now to see everything it could take about 5 days! So you are only getting a snapshot of the site. It's incredible though. It was explained that Pompeii was the commercial town, a place for trade and lots of visitors. Lunch wasn't included in the cost of our tour but the guide offered us the opportunity of having lunch at Hotel Vittoria for 20 euros per person. This included a drink, Salad or chips, Pizza, Pasta and ice cream. Well worth it. Next call was Herculaneum, entrance at 1:15pm, we had 1 hr 30 mins here. Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii but far better preserved, due to the pyroclastic material that covered it. A lot of Herculaneum has also not been uncovered. Herculaneum was a wealthier town, a seaside retreat for the rich and their second homes, so there is actually more to see here, more artefacts. Again, well worth a visit.

    Great Tour

Guide & driver were excellent. Was not very happy about the late change to my pickup location but driver & guide accommodated us on the dropoff.

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sorrento and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sorrento?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sorrento?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
