What you get

    About this experience

As day turns to night, Athens slows down and comes alive around the table. On this afternoon-into-evening tour, we’ll experience the historic Plaka at its most atmospheric, wandering beneath the Acropolis as locals gather for food, wine and conversation. Starting near Syntagma Square, we’ll make our way through Anafiotika and the Plaka’s charming backstreets, stopping for thick Greek yogurt with honey, superb pastries and an olive oil tasting featuring artisanal products from across Greece. As evening settles in, we’ll visit a pioneering wine bar to taste bottles from small Greek producers before sitting down for regional specialties such as grilled Mastello cheese, stuffed grape leaves and Cretan tomato and bread salad. We’ll finish with inventive gelato flavored with Greek ingredients like mastiha, Kalamata figs and sweet wine from Samos — just as the Athenian night is getting started.

    Always the best tours!

Once again, Culinary Backstreets has proven to be one of the best experiences you can have in a city. You start by thinking you’re going on a food tour, but you end up learning so much more: it's about the city, the country, its history, philosophy, customs, and way of life. And, by the end, you've made friends along the way. I can’t recommend it enough. If you haven’t done one of their tours yet, don’t waste any more time — book one!

Response from the operator: Thank you for leaving such a wonderful review of your time with us in Athens. We truly believe that understanding a city means diving into its daily life, history, and customs, rather than just taking a standard food tour. Thank you for supporting honest tourism and the unsung local heroes who work so hard to keep these beautiful culinary traditions alive. We hope to welcome you back to share more stories and connections in the future.

Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart take?

    +

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 29 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Plaka At Twilight: Another Side of Athens’s Culinary Heart start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
