What you get

    About this experience

Some places you can visit on your own. Phnom Penh isn't one of them. We pick you up from your hotel and your local Cambodian guide stays with you the entire tour, not driving, just fully focused on you, your questions, and the real stories behind what you're seeing. This isn't a rehearsed script. It's personal. We start at the Royal Palace, the heart of Cambodian identity – still active, still stunning, and layered with history most visitors walk past without knowing. From there, we head to Tuol Sleng (S-21). Hearing this story from a Cambodian whose country lived through it is something no guidebook can replicate. Then we cross to Silk Island on the Mekong, where families still weave traditional Khmer silk exactly as they have for generations. Walk the village paths, watch the looms at work, and feel how different life is just a few kilometers from downtown. We finish at Wat Phnom, the hilltop temple that gave the city its name, before your guide brings you back to your hotel.

    Amazing time with Lina

I had an amazing time exploring Phnom Penh with Lina! Not only did we visit all the must-see spots, but Lina also introduced us to hidden gems that only local know about. Her enthusiasm for the city is contagious, and she makes learning about the history so much fun. I can't wait to book another tour with Lina soon.

Average at best despite Lina trying hard to make it a great tour.

Lina tried hard to make the experience a good one, but she needs more knowledge to perform at a level that you would expect from a guide for a tour at this price. We got a call in the morning while we were on another tour indicating they were at our hotel to pick us up when the actual tour was not scheduled until the afternoon. Once we cleared the confusion on that we reached back out to Lina in the afternoon to see what time they would be picking us up since we were thing it was around 1:00 for a 2:00 tour. We were thinking n our hotel lobby waiting starting around 12:45. I finally heard from Lina and she indicated she would pick us up at 2:00. When 2:00 came we still were waiting and got another message saying she was running late and would be there by 2:15. A little later we got another message saying she was close but still running late. Eventually we got started around 2:20. Needless to say at that point we were not pleased and had poor expectations for the tour. Lina was super nice but overall simply lacked the knowledge for what we had expected of a tour at this price point. She needs more time to become seasoned.

Response from the operator: Dear Erwin, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and provide feedback on our tour guide service. We sincerely apologize for the issues with your scheduled tour. This was the first time we encountered such a scheduling confusion, and we are truly sorry for any inconvenience it caused. We are committed to improving our service to ensure a better experience for all our clients and to prevent such issues from occurring in the future. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. Have a great day, Lina Smile Tour

    Excellent tour

Great tour of important sites, with enough time at each. Lina provides good information, context, and answers your questions. She and the tour driver were very kind and flexible in allowing a family member to remain in our van at times due to the heat.

    Great tour in Pnom Penh

This is a great tour to learn more about Pnom Penh and Cambodian society and history. Lina is a great guide with good English and she does the utmost to make the tour memorable. You will get to visit the beautiful and lush silk island where a boat ride takes you to a silk farm where beautiful silk items are crafted from silk worms. Afterwards we got to experience Wat Phnom and the Royal Palace, a great way to understand the history of Pnom Penh and the monarchy in Cambodia. Finally we went to the Genocide museum (s21), a very important piece of history to understand the horrors during the Khmer Rouge era. Lina is very knowledgeable and could answer all questions we had. We also appreciate the driving which felt safe and we were provided with free cold water throughout the tour. Many thanks Lina and we hope to come back in the future!

An afternoon with Lina in Phnom Penh! 🤩

We had the best afternoon with Lina hitting some of the must sees in Phnom Penh. Lina and her driver where awesome. My husband is disabled and walks with a cane, and they were so accommodating and patient. Since we were the only ones on the tour, and had visited the S21 prison the day before, Lina adjusted our tour so we could spend more time at the other locations. Lina speaks very good english and if there was any time we ran into difficulties she used a translation app to figure things out. She provided background and context to the places we visited which was very helpful and made or tour more meaningful. Along the way she bought some banana wrapped in sticky rice and then steamed in banana leaves from a street vendor for us to try. It was delicious! Wish we would have had more time in Phnom Penh so we could have done the street food tour with Lina. I would highly recommend this tour! Thank you again Lina for a most enjoyable afternoon!

Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Phnom Penh.

How much does Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Phnom Penh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Phnom Penh is not rushed.

Is Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Phnom Penh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour?

    +

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Phnom Penh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Phnom Penh and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Phnom Penh: Half Day City & Mekong Island Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Phnom Penh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Phnom Penh?

    +

On Outty we rank every Phnom Penh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Tuol Sleng S21 and Choeung Ek Killing Field Tour, The Killing Field and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) Tour, Killing field and Toul Sleng genocide museum Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Phnom Penh?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Phnom Penh?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
