This tour is perfect for those who do not want much walking, but plenty of opportunities to observe and photograph the natural beauty and wildlife. The raft makes for a quiet and peaceful trip, where you will only occasionally need to lightly paddle to avoid an obstacle. Its material allows it to be light, highly buoyant, and stable without affecting the river floor as it passes nor disturbing the animals that inhabit it. The boat captain is also an experienced naturalist guide with great knowledge to interpret the ecosystem and provide interesting information about it. His experience has also given him a unique ability to locate species in the dense vegetation, even those with camouflage and mimicry adaptations.

    A Perfect Afternoon!

Best excursion of our entire trip! Diego was great at pointing out all the animals we would have missed. We saw howler monkeys as well as the elusive white faced monkeys. That was a real treat! He stopped the raft and let us watch the monkeys traveling through the trees and that was lots of fun! We had the entire river to ourselves because we went in the afternoon and it was so beautiful and quiet and relaxing to just float and watch for animals. We also lucked out in that there was no rain. Could not have had a more perfect afternoon and highly recommend this tour. Thanks Diego!!

    Monkeys, sloths, and crocs….Oh My!

We had an amazing experience with our tour guide Diego and driver Andres during our Costa Rica trip. He led us on both a float trip and a hanging bridges tour, and his knowledge, patience, and genuine love for the area made the day unforgettable. On the river, he pointed out wildlife we never would have spotted on our own — monkeys, birds, even a few hidden croc along the bank. The float was peaceful, safe, and beautifully paced. At the hanging bridges, he shared so much insight about the rainforest, plants, and animals, and made the whole walk feel fun and relaxed. I loved his special binoculars that he helped us take pictures up close of the animals. He made sure everyone in our group felt comfortable and engaged. We left feeling like we learned so much and truly connected with Costa Rica’s nature. Highly recommend him for anyone looking for a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and friendly guide. This was a great combo for teenagers. We also had my parents with us too that are 68 years old and my sons are 13 and 16. The path on the hanging bridge was not too strenuous and float trip was calm waters. They provided a delicious snack after the float trip and fresh pineapple after the hanging bridges. We were lucky to get Diego for the whole day.

Amazing boat tour with Jacamar !!!

We had a fantastic time with Jacamar tour on our boat trip!!! We saw sloths, bats, many birds and monkeys. Adrian gave us very detailed explanations on the natural ecosystem surrounding the river. We were very interested by the rich biodiversity of the river for its flora and fauna.

    This was a great...

This was a great experience. Our tour guide Jose not only did a great job spotting animals on the river and giving us time to stop and photograph the animals, he also saw some sloths on his was to pick us up then stopped the van on the way to the river so we could see them. While we were readying the raft for our float, there were several more sloths at the entry point. We saw 3 groups of monkeys, lots of iguanas and various waterfowl along the river float. Then the “snack” was more like a feast at the local cafe as we disembarked. Not only did we receive homemade banana bread, cheese bread, plantains, cheese and fruit, but we also got to enjoy many colorful birds taking advantage of the many feeders surrounding the outdoor dining. Can’t say enough good things about the entire experience.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.

How much does Peñas Blancas River Safari Float cost?

    +

How long does Peñas Blancas River Safari Float take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.

Is Peñas Blancas River Safari Float worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 161 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Peñas Blancas River Safari Float?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Peñas Blancas River Safari Float suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Peñas Blancas River Safari Float?

    +

Around 56 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Fortuna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
