What you'll see and do

  1. The Paris Catacombs

Beneath the dazzling lights of modern Paris lie the devilishly dark Catacombs, which in this Exclusive Tour you will be able to descend into and explore in your very own Group of ONLY 6 people MAX, and of course skipping the ticket lines. Sometimes called the “Empire of Death,” this marvelously macabre 200-mile maze houses the painstakingly arranged remains of roughly 6 million Parisians. On this Paris Catacombs Tour, you will get to see all the glorious and ghoulish sites without waiting for hours in line. As an added bonus, your Tour will include VIP access to rarely seen restricted chambers. Your Paris Catacombs Tour begins with a bone-chilling descent on the complex’s 133-step staircase. Your guide will explain how these tunnels were used in the 13th century to quarry limestone for buildings as grand as Notre Dame. As you make your way through these narrow tunnels, you will learn why bad weather in the 1780s forced Parisians to bury their dead here. During your tour, you will have plenty of time to admire the Catacombs’ disturbingly detailed bone decorations. From religious iconography to hearts, workers found many ways to “beautify” the bones housed in this complex. There is, however, one decoration that will really set your spine a-tingling. Inside the popular Crypt of the Passion take a few moments to admire “The Barrel,” which is constructed out of various skeletal remains. In addition to housing the dead, the Catacombs played an important role in many significant historic events. Your guide will tell you tales of the German Wehrmacht and the French Resistance who both used part of the Catacombs as wartime bunkers during World War II.

  2. Chapelle Expiatoire

Pay homage to monuments dedicated to people who died fighting during the French Revolution, and pass by some of the cemeteries, such as the Magdalena Cemetery, where beheaded revolutionaries were laid to rest. If you are not afraid of ghosts, then ask your guide about the grave of the doorman Philibert Aspairt who passed away in the Catacombs in the 18th century. According to legend, Aspairt’s spirit rises up every November 3rd to spook unsuspecting tourists. Believe it or not, there’s now a dedicated group of Catacombs enthusiasts known as the cataphiles. As your guide will explain, these cataphiles have caused quite a stir in recent years hosting huge raves, swimming parties, and an extensive network in this underground city of the dead. Keep your eyes peeled for graffiti left by cataphiles on your Catacombs Tour. Keep in mind, only 200 people are allowed into the Catacombs at any given moment. With our Tour, however, you will enjoy VIP access to all of the Catacombs’ major highlights without waiting in line. This Exclusive Paris Catacombs Tour will also take you to areas that are restricted to the general public, again all in the personalised atmosphere that only a Small Group of 6 People Max can offer!

Must do experience!

Must do Paris experience. This was everything that I seek guided tour experiences for. Skip the line, special access and most importantly knowledgeable-informative guides. Remi was great and I highly recommend!

An Exceptional Tour with a Master Guide!

If you are visiting the Paris Catacombs, Remi with LivTours Paris is the ONLY guide you need to request! We did the Semi-Private Guided Tour, and Remi made it an unforgettable experience for our whole family. He possesses an amazing balance of intellect, kindness, and passion. Rather than just lecturing, he pulled both the adults and teenagers into the history, asking questions and making sure everyone was comfortable along the way. He is so incredibly engaging and entertaining that our time in the Catacombs just flew by. Remi is absolutely exceptional at what he does, and we cannot recommend him highly enough!

First trip to Paris

There is no lift, a lot of stairs so wear comfortable shoes. The ground is also uneven so watch your step. The catacombs are old mines and other than lighting, they’ve kept them more or less how they were. Great experience and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting that creepy vibe. Maria was our guide and we were able to go into some tunnels that had special access for certain groups. Maria was very knowledgeable of the history of the catacombs. Wonderful tour and guide. Great job!

Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Paris.

How much does Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $184 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Paris usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour take?

+

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Paris is not rushed.

Is Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 237 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Paris, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour?

+

Around 83 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Paris can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Paris and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Paris Catacombs Semi-Private Max 6 People Guided Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Paris within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Paris?

+

Paris rewards travelers who book ahead. The headline museums sell timed entry weeks out, the best food walks cap at eight people, and the Seine cruises that are worth doing are the ones that leave after sunset. Everything below is scored by the Outty Ranking so you can tell a genuine local favorite from a coach-tour filler in a single glance. On Outty we rank every Paris experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Louvre Museum Essential Guided Tour Semi Private 6 GUESTS MAX, Louvre Museum Premium Guided Tour 6 GUESTS MAX Entry Included, Paris City Center Free Walking Tour (Tip-Based). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Paris?

+

April to June and September to October, when queues thin out and terraces stay open late. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Paris?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
