Great hike, splendid views, amazing workout.
Israel was a fantastic guide for our terrific hike. He took us in a 8-mile loop reaching the 9,200 feet peak of El Picacho. Throughout the hike, he educated us about the surroundings. The trails here aren’t greatly marked and so you need a well versed guide like Israel. He’s bilingual. His teenage son came along, who’s a great kid, very helpful and kind.

Awesome hike with friendly and knowledgeable guide
I visited San Miguel for a wedding and wanted to do some hiking. After looking at a few competitors and being appalled at their high prices, I was lucky to find Israel of Mitote Tours. He charged a reasonable price for a full day of guide services including transport and lunch. I asked to go on the most strenuous hike available and he took me and one other guest up an extinct volcano at the edge of town. We enjoyed spectacular sunrise and summit views and walked 12 kilometers through desert oak scrub terrain. Israel was friendly, outgoing, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable about native flora and fauna. He showed us edible wild fruits and explained local ethnobotanical practices. His English is excellent too. I very much enjoyed my hike with Israel, would enthusiastically recommend him, and hope to join him again one day!

Invigorating hike
We hike the Los Picacho with Israel as our tour guide. Intitally I was apprehensive as an older fit woman if I would get to the top - he a laid my fear and was very encouraging. He was a good communicator and prepared for emergencies (safety equipment and 1st aid) bringing along good snacks to have at the top. It was a fabulous hike - beautiful scenery and amazing views. He is native to San Miguel and eager to share his knowledge on the area, plants, animals, where to go and what to see. I was impressed by his expertise of the plant life as we climbed up. He speak English fluently and is also a good listener. Highly recommend him. Thank you Israel.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

+
