What you'll see and do
Baixa de Lisboa
We begin our journey going back in time from Baixa, Lisbon’s 'modern' downtown district rebuilt after the devastating 18th-century earthquake. Here, we unravel how the earthquake reshaped not only the city’s architecture, but also introduced surprisingly modern urban ideas for its time. At one of the last food stops of this kind — a historic establishment open since 1890 — we will taste carefully selected DOP products and specialties sourced from small Portuguese producers, including the unique Bísaro ham, awarded artisanal cheese, artisanal bread and marmelade, paired with a Tawny Porto wine.

Praca Martim Moniz
Our journey then continues into the narrow streets and Mouraria hill, one of Lisbon’s oldest and most fascinating neighborhoods, shaped by centuries of history since the 12th century. Across two carefully curated food stops, enjoy full Mozambican specialties that reflect Lisbon’s food multicultural identity — beyond the small pastries usually served — alongside a generous cut of tender, juicy premium cod prepared exclusively for our groups, rather than tasting shredded cod, used in cod cakes or Cod à Brás. While we love these recipes, we believe that the premium cut is the fairest and most honest way to allow travelers to truly experience the texture, flavor, and quality of one of Portugal’s most iconic ingredients. We step into local taverns that visitors would hardly find, to discover not only the flavors of the neighborhood, but also the stories, migrations, traditions, and communities that continue to shape it today. Total walking time: 30mn Seated time: 60 mn

Alfama
With our bellies ready for another short walk, we walk downhill toward the river and into Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood. At our final stop — a historic tavern, carved into the city’s ancient walls — we step into an almost medieval atmosphere where a generous selection of 'petiscos' awaits: traditional flammed chorizo, artisanal cheeses, octopus, seasonal seafood specialties, among others, alongside selected local wines from small Portuguese producers or non-alcoholic alternatives. And because our four-hour Portuguese slow food tour journey couldn't end without something sweet, desserts and coffee become the perfect way to gently close our journey back in time! Along the way, we uncover the foundations of Lisbon itself, from the Roman period through the Arab influence. As we wander through its maze of narrow streets guests discover how this part of the city was designed both for defense and to better withstand Lisbon’s summer heat.

Oh! My Cod MANIFESTO Created in 2017 by Silvia Olivença — a Lisbon native born in Alfama, trained in Clinical Psychology and holding a PhD in Medical Anthropology — this experience was never designed as a conventional food tour. All these shops and restaurants and family-run establishments included along the journey are places that have been part of Silvia’s own life since adolescence, long before tourism transformed Lisbon. Several had never worked with tours before becoming part of this project, helping shape a more intimate, human, and culturally grounded approach to food tourism in the city over the past decade. Deeply influenced by anthropology, diversity, and human connection, Oh! My Cod tours works with gastronomy in an eclectic and holistic approach, as a medium to narrate several voices, cultures, generations and different perspectives – namely the subversive ones – through immersive experiences and human encounters, where we all (including you!) become cultural narrators.

Lisbon food tour success!
We took the "Oh My Cod!" Food tour around Lisbon and were so satisfied with our experience. Not only a great way to try food, but also a wonderful way to learn about a new city with the universal connector: food. The tour guides were top-notch, providing lots of information and able to answer every question we had. One of them was from Lisbon and had such great answers to our questions. Further, the style of tour was so engaging and felt so personal. We were asked "why do you think that..." instead of being told facts, and that was so fun! Not only that, but having a small group tour where everyone's needs are met (be it vegetarian, gluten free, halal, etc.) is so cool. I am a big fan of this company and would seek out other tours of theirs if I was in the area again. Can't recommend more if your goal is learning about a new place, wanting to try food, and get a truly personal-feel experience. Oh, and the tour length (4 hours) and cost were perfectly reasonable!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review! It honestly means a lot to us to know that you connected with the way we do things. Food is such a wonderful way of getting to know a place and its people, and we love creating tours that feel more like a conversation than a history lesson. We’re really happy that came across and that you felt so comfortable and involved along the way. Thank you again for trusting us with your time in Lisbon. We’d love to have you back whenever your travels bring you our way again!

Best night!
Everyone said this was “the best night in Lisbon!” Rodrigo was so knowledgeable and kind. My kids, husband and I all had a great time. We all learned and tried something new! Thank you so much!!!
Response from the operator: Wow, thank you so much for the amazing review! It means a lot to know that we could make it such a memorable night for the whole family. We love taking our guests to places they might not find on their own and sharing some of the stories and flavours that make Lisbon so special. In addition to our Lisbon tours, we also offer unique gastronomic experiences and trips to the Azores islands. Be sure to check out Oh! My Cod Tours and Trips — we’d love to welcome you back!

Thoroughly Enjoyed my First Food Tour with Marina and Pablo!
First walking tour with Marina and Pablo of Lisbon! Incredible experience that will be a must anytime I travel. It ticked all my boxes, met friendly tourists and locals, we all got to bond over the shared cuisine, tasty variety of food and learned many things about Lisbon, its history, architecture, cuisine and people. Many laughs, smiles, nods of approval at tasty samplings. If they have other tours I would definitely do another! Highly recommend, Marina and Pablo were great tour guides who I wish all the best!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful recommendation! We’d love to welcome you back, and yes, we have other experiences in Lisbon, Setubal and Alentejo that we think you’d enjoy. And since you seem to be an adventurous soul, we hope you’ll make it to the Azores one day too! Have a look at our website and see where your next adventure takes you. We’ll be very happy to have you along!

Great introduction to Lisbon!
Great introduction to Lisbon! Marina was incredibly knowledgeable and excited to welcome our small group. Each stop had something new and interesting. Be prepared for a decent amount of walking and inclines but nothing too strenuous.
Response from the operator: We’re so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience with Marina, and that you chose us to introduce you to Lisbon! Thank you so much for your recommendation — we truly hope to welcome you back one day!

Lisbon’s History and Flavors Come Alive
Marina is an outstanding tour guide, and I’m so glad I booked this small-group tour. A Lisbon native, she shares her deep knowledge of the neighborhoods and their history—along with her love of the local cuisine—with warmth and enthusiasm. At each stop, we enjoyed tastings of Portuguese delicacies paired with engaging stories about their origins: where the ingredients come from, how the dishes are prepared, and why they’re central to everyday Portuguese life. Every step with Marina felt like peeling back a new layer of Lisbon’s rich cultural mix and vibrant flavors, revealing what makes the city so magical. I highly recommend this tour and can’t wait to return to Lisbon for another experience with Marina.
Response from the operator: Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and all the little details that made it special for you. t's great to know that our tour and host Marina left such a good impression on you.

Why this scores 86
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.
How much does Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa cost?
+
Prices start at $107 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.
Is Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 86 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 1,475 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa?
+
Around 516 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Original Food Lisbon & Cultural Tour: Alfama, Mouraria & Baixa start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lisbon?
+
On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lisbon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lisbon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
