Create Your Own Perfume - A Must-Do Experience in Paris

Whenever you’re in Paris, you shouldn’t come back without a perfume - so we decided to create our own at Le Studio des Parfums. The 4-hour masterclass with Patrice was such a fun and memorable experience. We learned a lot about perfumes, ingredients and fragrance creation, with plenty of interesting stories along the way. Patrice is incredibly passionate, and it really makes the experience special. And definitely add Patrice’s own champagne to the masterclass - it’s worth it. A must-do experience in Paris, and one we’d happily come back for.

My mother and I attended this class during our trip to Paris. Though the reviews were positive, and there was nothing wrong with the venue etc, I just didn't feel that the amount charged was worth the experience. We were brought into a room and all seated and given a box with scents and a card. We were told to choose a certain number of scents (different notes) and measure the designated amounts and pour them all into a bottle and that was your scent. There was no explanation as to what I was doing, or what would be good scents to put together. Basically a hodge podge of mixing scents. And that was "scent" to take home as a souvenir. I would have appreciated some history of scent making in France, or even a little explanation of what I was doing. It seemed very crammed in for an hour time frame. They really need to restructure this class and maybe extend it to 1.5 hours to make it really personable. Looking back, I probably would have not spent all that $ for this class.

    This olfactory workshop stinks!

What a joke! After booking this experience through TripAdvisor experiences, we arrived only to be told that they did not have our booking. After many phone calls, having provided our reservation number which guarantees their payment and being totally ignored by the desk clerk, she miraculously found our booking but insisted we change to a more expensive experience (50 euro) that also takes an additional hour. Her reasoning was that there was another group who would have the majority of the fragrances but we could have a small sampling and keep our time. She then led us into a closet with a table and chairs, moved all of the testing fragrances out of the way and brought in a very small box. Put it on the table and walked out. We also had to ask for programs in English after she provided one in English and one in French. After several minutes we walked back to the front and requested a refund which she said was impossible. She never smiled. She never apologized for the mixup and when we asked to speak to the owner, she barked that he was too busy. She finally got him on the phone and he refused to refund our money and hung up on us. She then called a manager after our insistence who was equally unhelpful. We left with no promise of a refund and filed a complaint with TripAdvisor. After traveling the globe and booking TripAdvisor experiences and having truly wonderful experiences we would rate this a zero if it were possible. Total scam!!!

Response from the operator: Sir, how dare you? You and your Friend verbally assaulted our employee. One of you even grabbed her and shook her. This is both a physical and verbal assault. She left the company in tears and unable to complete her day's work. A complaint has been sent to Viator, and another one to the police. We are going to follow this issue.

    Not so great

Unfortunately we did not have the great experience others did here. Although I believed the event was limited to 6 or 8 guests, there were 16 in our group. We were all in one small windowless room so it was difficult for me to really smell all the fragrances to make my decisions. The lovely host had 13 French speaking people in attendance so her attention had to be on them. I had requested from the start some direction that she didn’t have time to give me, and when it was time for her to create my formula she did it in literally 10 seconds since I was second to last to be assisted and we were already over time. She could see I didn’t like my perfume result so she added some more to it to try and fix it. I am sure in a smaller group this would have been a fantastic experience - hopefully if you choose to do it you will be so lucky to not go on a busy day!

    Paris parfum

Patrice the owner was FABULOUS!! I accidently read the time wrong and he was kind enough to allow us to return the next day. They even upgraded us!! We had done another tour last year in Paris at different company- this was WAY better!!! They did not rush us through they took their time to explain the process and even allowed us to tweak it a little. My daughter was VERY pleased and so was I. Thank you so much Patrice you REALLY made our Paris time memorable 💖 💕

Olfactory Escape Workshop: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Paris.

How much does Olfactory Escape Workshop cost?

    +

Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Paris usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Olfactory Escape Workshop take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Paris is not rushed.

Is Olfactory Escape Workshop worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 63 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Paris, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Olfactory Escape Workshop?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Olfactory Escape Workshop suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Olfactory Escape Workshop?

    +

Around 22 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Paris can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Paris and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Olfactory Escape Workshop start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Paris within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Paris?

    +

Paris rewards travelers who book ahead. The headline museums sell timed entry weeks out, the best food walks cap at eight people, and the Seine cruises that are worth doing are the ones that leave after sunset. Everything below is scored by the Outty Ranking so you can tell a genuine local favorite from a coach-tour filler in a single glance. On Outty we rank every Paris experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Louvre Museum Essential Guided Tour Semi Private 6 GUESTS MAX, Louvre Museum Premium Guided Tour 6 GUESTS MAX Entry Included, Paris City Center Free Walking Tour (Tip-Based). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Paris?

    +

April to June and September to October, when queues thin out and terraces stay open late. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Paris?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
