The Best Food & Cultural Experience in Delhi – An Unforgettable Old Delhi Food Tour

This was easily one of the best food experiences I had in Delhi — and it was so much more than just a food tour. If you’re looking for an authentic Delhi experience, a Delhi food tour, or one of the best things to do in Old Delhi, I highly recommend this experience. What makes it special is that you don’t just eat your way through Delhi. You explore the temples, hidden lanes, historic bazaars, and one of the largest spice markets in Delhi, while experiencing the city like a local. We visited parts of Old Delhi that I would never have been able to discover on my own. The food was fantastic, and everything was carefully selected and hygienically prepared by the hosts. They are Delhi locals who have been doing this for more than 11–12 years, and you can immediately see how well-known and respected they are in the local market. From the rickshaw drivers to the food vendors, everyone seemed to know them. This was especially important for me because I had previously tried exploring the area by myself. Honestly, it was completely different. When I was alone, people constantly approached me and it could feel overwhelming. With the hosts, I felt safe, comfortable and welcomed throughout the entire experience. Because they know the area and the people so well, we could explore the hidden streets and local food spots of Old Delhi without feeling uncomfortable. We also had access to places and a local mega kitchen that I would never have found as an independent traveller. These are the kinds of experiences that make a Delhi cultural tour memorable — you get to see the food, people, traditions and everyday life of the city beyond the typical tourist attractions. For me, this was much more than a street food tour in Delhi. It was a combination of Indian food, local culture, history, markets and authentic Old Delhi life. The experience was also excellent value for money considering how much you get to see, taste and learn. If you are visiting Delhi and can only do one food or cultural experience, make this one. It is easily one of my top recommendations for food lovers, first-time visitors to Delhi, international tourists and anyone wanting to experience the real Old Delhi beyond the usual tourist spots. Highly recommended — one of the best food tours and cultural experiences in Delhi!

    Best food tour

This was so much more than just a food tour—it was the perfect combination of Old Delhi food, culture, history, temples, and local experiences. If you’re looking for the best Old Delhi Food Tour, Delhi Street Food Tour, or a Chandni Chowk Walking Tour, this experience is a must. We visited the beautiful Jain Temple, admired the historic Hindu Temple from the outside, and explored a peaceful Sikh Gurudwara, where we even had the opportunity to visit the community kitchen (Langar) and learn about its traditions. The highlight was tasting some of the most delicious and authentic street food in Old Delhi. Every food stop was 100% safe, hygienic, and personally handpicked by the Explore Real India team, making it an ideal experience for international travelers who want to enjoy safe street food in Delhi. The tour is also vegetarian-friendly, with plenty of incredible local specialties to try. We wandered through the vibrant narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, explored Asia’s largest spice market (Khari Baoli) with its incredible sights and aromas, and enjoyed a memorable cycle rickshaw ride through Old Delhi, offering a unique perspective of this historic neighborhood. A huge thank you to Explore Real India for creating such a unique Old Delhi Food Tour, Delhi Temple Tour, Old Delhi Cultural Tour, and heritage walking experience. Response from the operator: What a generous, heartwarming review—thank you so much! Reading your detailed breakdown of the day puts the biggest smile on my face. Showing guests the magic of Old Delhi is about far more than just filling plates. It’s about creating those core memories—whether that’s winding through the bustling lanes on a cycle rickshaw, taking in the incredible scents of Khari Baoli, or experiencing the profound spirit of community at the Sikh Gurudwara’s kitchen. Curating 100% safe, hygienic, and delicious vegetarian street food so international travelers can indulge with total confidence is something we take immense pride in. For anyone following along who wants a look at the exact food stops and neighborhood spots we visit, we love sharing our daily walks on Insta at Food Tours Delhi. Now that you've experienced those spices out on the historic streets, we’d love to have you back to learn how we blend and cook with them at home! Fantastic visit around Old Delhi

If you’re visiting Delhi, don’t miss this tour. We booked it because we wanted to try great local food, but it ended up being so much more than that. JD is an excellent guide who clearly knows Old Delhi inside out. Throughout the tour he shared interesting stories about the city’s history, explained different cultural and religious traditions, and was happy to answer all sorts of questions about life in India. You never felt like he was reciting a script—it was more like exploring the city with a knowledgeable local. The food stops were all fantastic, with a good variety of dishes that we probably wouldn’t have found on our own. JD also did a great job of making everyone feel at ease, especially those of us visiting India for the first time. He was mindful of what foreign travellers might be unsure about without taking away from the authenticity of the experience. A really enjoyable afternoon with brilliant food, plenty of laughs, and a much deeper understanding of Old Delhi than we’d have had otherwise. We’d recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this glowing and thoughtful review! Hearing that our walk felt like exploring the city with a knowledgeable friend rather than following a script is the greatest compliment I could ask for! Old Delhi has so many layers of history, culture, and life, and my goal is always to make foreign travelers—especially first-timers—feel completely comfortable, safe, and at ease while soaking in the authentic charm of these historic streets. I am so glad you enjoyed all the handpicked food stops, the laughs, and the deep dive into local life! For anyone reading along who wants a visual sneak peek at the hidden culinary gems and street food spots we visit, we regularly share our neighborhood walks on Insta at Food Tours Delhi. Now that you've tasted the vibrant flavors on the streets, next time you are in Delhi, you’ll have to step into my family home so we can teach you how to cook authentic Indian dishes and blend your own spices from scratch! You can check out our family kitchen and home recipes on Insta @ Art of Indian Cooking. On behalf of the whole Explore Real India team, thank you again for your trust, your wonderful company, and for taking the time to share your experience with fellow travelers. Wishing you many more incredible journeys ahead, and we hope to welcome you back to Delhi soon!

    Wonderful Experience

We had such a great afternoon with JD on his Old Delhi food tour. It was easily one of the highlights of our time in Delhi. The food was excellent, but what really made the tour was JD himself. He was funny, easy to chat to, and incredibly knowledgeable—not just about the food, but about the history, culture, and day-to-day life in India. We asked loads of questions about religion, customs, politics, and the history of Delhi, and he always had thoughtful, balanced answers that gave us a much better understanding of the city and the country. As a first time visitors to India, I also really appreciated how considerate he was. He clearly understands and accommodates the needs of foreign travellers without ever making the experience feel watered down. We felt like we were seeing the real Old Delhi while still feeling comfortable throughout If you’re looking for more than just a food tour—something that gives you a genuine insight into Delhi and Indian culture—I’d absolutely recommend booking with JD. Five stars without hesitation.

Response from the operator: I had such a fantastic afternoon with you, thank you so much for this stellar review! For me, an Old Delhi food tour shouldn't just be about eating; it’s the absolute best excuse to sit down, share a meal, and dive deep into real conversations. I absolutely loved all your thoughtful questions about our history, politics, and daily customs. Helping guests walk away with a genuine, grounded understanding of Indian culture is exactly what I aim for, so reading this means the world to me. If you ever find yourselves missing the vibrant chaos and the amazing dishes we tried, I’m always posting our neighborhood street food adventures over on Instagram at Food Tours Delhi! Since you appreciated the deep dive into our day-to-day life so much, the next time you visit, we will have to take the conversation right into my family's home. I host hands-on classes where we explore the culture of traditional homemade meals (you can catch a glimpse of our kitchen family on Insta @ Art of Indian Cooking). And whenever you decide to come back and explore the broader history of the rest of the country, just look up Explore Real India online—I would be absolutely thrilled to help you plan that journey. Thank you for your endless curiosity and great company. Safe travels, and I hope we can share another meal together in the future!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Delhi.

How much does Old Delhi Food Tour with Spice Market, Temples and Rickshaw Ride cost?

    +

Prices start at $1999 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Delhi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Old Delhi Food Tour with Spice Market, Temples and Rickshaw Ride take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Delhi is not rushed.

Is Old Delhi Food Tour with Spice Market, Temples and Rickshaw Ride worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 335 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in New Delhi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Old Delhi Food Tour with Spice Market, Temples and Rickshaw Ride?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Old Delhi Food Tour with Spice Market, Temples and Rickshaw Ride suitable for kids and families?

    +

Around 117 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Delhi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in New Delhi?

    +

On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit New Delhi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in New Delhi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
