Great Excursion, but Weather Cancellations & Refund Issues Were Disappointing

This excursion would’ve been great, but unfortunately, I can’t really say that it was because half of it ended up being canceled due to the weather. The Green Grotto Caves were amazing! There is quite a bit of walking and some stairs, so I definitely recommend bringing water. They do not allow you to use your phone or take your own pictures inside the caves. However, they have photographers throughout the tour who take pictures of you as well as photos of the different areas inside the caves. Since we couldn’t take our phones with us, we rented a locker, which we were able to use for the entire day. During the cave tour, we got to see bats, a cenote, the wishing well, and several other really beautiful areas. This was definitely one of the highlights of the excursion. After Green Grotto, we got back on the bus and headed over to the ranch owned by Chukka. One important thing to know: They are VERY strict about weight limits and weigh everyone who is participating in activities at the ranch. The weight limit for horseback riding is 230 lbs. If you’ve never ridden a horse before, don’t worry! They give you a quick tutorial before you start. Even my 6-year-old had no issues horseback riding and did great. Because there aren’t enough horses and dune buggies/ATVs for everyone to participate at the same time, they split everyone into groups. We were a group of 7, so 5 of us went horseback riding while my two sisters-in-law did the UTV/dune buggies first. They had a great time on the dune buggies, but during their ride, another driver crashed one of the buggies, which left them down one vehicle. After we finished horseback riding, it was supposed to be our turn for the dune buggies. However, we had to wait while they worked on the damaged buggy because our group included a child and a teenager who couldn’t drive themselves. While we waited, the group that had done the UTVs first went horseback riding. Then the rain started. Unfortunately, our dune buggy portion was canceled because the rain caused poor visibility on the trail. The catamaran portion was also canceled because the water was too choppy. Obviously, I understand that Chukka cannot control the weather, and safety should always come first. My disappointment comes from paying for a multi-activity excursion and only being able to complete part of what we booked. What makes the situation even more frustrating is the refund process. I booked the excursion through Nexus, and it has now been over a week without receiving my refund for the activities that were canceled. I have contacted them nearly every day since Sunday, and the response I continue to receive is basically, “I will follow up.” Yet I still have not received my refund. Had we been able to complete the entire excursion, I think this could have been a really great experience. The Green Grotto was beautiful, horseback riding was enjoyable, and my sisters-in-law had fun during the portion of the dune buggy ride they were able to do. However, between having more than one activity canceled and still waiting for a refund over a week later, I can’t give this excursion more than 3 stars.

Fun filled day of activity

Staff at Chukka tours were amazing and catered to our every need. Samantha was truly a gem and made the birthday celebration truly special, going above and beyond to ensure we got everything we wanted and some. If ask and ill make it happen was a person.. it would be Samantha....such a sweetheart! Our ATV guides Dwayne and Romeo , and horse riding guides Errol and Sanjay were very interactive, adding their pizzaz to the tours making the experience more fun. 10/10...WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!

Nice deal

I booked an excursion but was told by drivers that we weren’t on any of the excursions during pickups. I contacted my rep and he got a driver there but we were picked up and missed half of the cave experience due to their confusion. We were actually also dropped off with the wrong group because we were supposed to do Dunn’s Hills & Margaritaville but the group we went didn’t have those on the itenirary. Overall we ended up stop having a good time and enjoying ourselves after the initial disappointment. The host Sam was the best and I hope to see her again when we visit next year! She’s probably the reason I’d even consider booking another excursion.
