    Still don’t know about yurts

Very disorganized and uninformative excursion to see northern lights outside of Fairbanks. We have seen northern lights before, so the fact we did not see them was not the issue; rather, we wanted the yurt experience. Unfortunately, this was totally lacking. Had to ask the driver about ride duration and return time, since we got no intro upon embarking the tour van. Arrived to venue which was 3 yurts with a partially mowed field and resin chairs. Only had a 10 minute chat in one Yurt from a guide (who was good) but only spoke about his Alaskan experience and yurts. Second guide spoke with a few guests and made some helpful comments but not to the whole group. Spoke more about dog sleds which we already had heard upteen times on vacation. Worst of all, we could not even have had the chance to see northern lights until 12:30 when it was totally dark and the tour ended at 2 (why did we start at 10?). Refreshments were a box of Chips Ahoy cookies. I hope Princess excursions is reading this review, because they need to re-assess this vendor. Save your money and go see a yurt on your own.

    Outstanding tour company

We were lucky to experience Tanner as our guide solo tonight and as a co-guide last night. Our first experience with Tanner was benefitting from his negotiating dinner arrangements dinner for 34 at Chena totally unscripted. Our trip tonight was outstanding. Tanner is Professional. Knowledgeable. Talented. And quick and calm under pressure when faced with a fuel leak of a heater. He is an excellent representative for the company. I HIGHLY recommend asking for him.

    Murphy Dome Tour

💯 recommend this organization!!!! Constant communication from the office staff, easiest application, waiver, and payment. Paul, our guide, VERY knowledgeable about area, aurora, and other local heritage. Paul made the trip worth it, pointing out different aspects of the lights so we could get the best experience. He also is unequivocally the most personable guide I've met; within 10-15 minutes, you forgot he was there as duty, and more of a friend along for the ride! 10 STARS!

Absolutely stunning Aurora and an excellent guide to boot!

The photo on their site is nothing compared to the spectacular views we enjoyed. Tanner was punctual, friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable about when the lights would peak in intensity. This was a must do if you visit Fairbanks in the winter and are fortunate to have a clear night. Well worth every penny!

Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fairbanks.

How much does Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks cost?

    +

Prices start at $130 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fairbanks usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fairbanks is not rushed.

Is Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 79 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Fairbanks, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks?

    +

Around 28 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fairbanks can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fairbanks and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Northern Lights Murphy Dome Viewing in Fairbanks start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fairbanks within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Fairbanks?

    +

Fairbanks is the aurora capital of interior Alaska: heated viewing lodges, late-night chase tours, Arctic Circle day drives up the Dalton Highway, dog sledding and summer riverboat cruises. On Outty we rank every Fairbanks experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights - Aurora with FREE Photos - Arctic Night Tours, Dog Sledding and Mushing Experience in North Pole, Fairbanks Ice Fishing Expedition in a Heated Cabin with Fish Cookout. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Fairbanks?

    +

Late August to April for aurora, June to August for midnight-sun river trips. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Fairbanks?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
