Highly recommended: great experience and exceptional guidance

On January 5th we made an excursion to see Northern Lights in Rovaniemi and the experience was fantastic, especially thanks to Oscar, our guide whom I want to highlight for his involvement and professionalism. On the day of the excursion, in the morning, we were sent a Whatspp with the weather forecast and the approximate pick-up time from the hotel. In the afternoon we were already given the time: 18.30. Oscar picked us up on time with a van in which there was already a group of five people. First he took us to the offices to equip us with thermal clothes and boots. They checked what we were each wearing and provided us with what we needed to withstand the 30 degrees below zero we were going to encounter. Being a Spanish company the fact that the guides are Spanish greatly facilitates communication. The night was not easy, it had been a full moon two days ago, so there was too much light. Still, Oscar did his best, even crossing the Swedish border, searching for a cloudless sky and constantly monitoring forecasts and times when auroras might appear. Finally we got to see two Northern Lights, not the spectacular ones, but given the conditions it was exciting to see them. Oscar also took care of taking pictures of us and was always attentive to the group, giving us directions for the best use of our cameras. We arrived at the hotel about 2 a.m. but it was worth it. I totally recommend this company and I want to emphasize that Oscar was in permanent contact by telephone with Noemí, the owner of the company, despite the late hours, which gave me a great sense of security and control.

Best hosts to chase the northern lights

Noemy and Alexei were wonderful hosts. We got in touch for a couple of days until we had favorable conditions to pursuing the northern light. They had spared no efforts and took us to Norway on a 4 hour drive from Rovaniemi so we could see a very intense, green aurora. The drawings on the sky were absolutely amazing. Then, by the end of our tour, we figured we had lost our keys somewhere. They were very kind to help us with our costumer service (speaking finnish for us), and offered all the support we needed. We couldn't have asked for better guides!

Now I understand why people refer to northern light as the "aurora dance."

This was my first experience with the Northern Lights, and I’m so glad I joined Arctic Adventure Lapland! Both Noemi and Alex were incredibly caring, helpful, and professional. They helped me with my camera and tripod, monitored all the readings throughout the trip. Initially, I thought that seeing the aurora alongside a shooting star was a perfect first experience, but they kept pursuing the best views. We ended up witnessing the aurora band stretching across the sky, illuminating it beautifully. Now I understand why people refer to it as the "aurora dance." I enjoyed every minute of the tour! So thank you!! 😊

Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.

How much does Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups) cost?

    +

Prices start at $223 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups) take?

    +

Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.

Is Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups) worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups)?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups) suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups)?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Northern Lights Hunting with a photographer (Only small groups) start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
