About this experience
This is a real Northern Lights chase, guided by a local Sámi/Norwegian with deep knowledge in this areas, and the route is decided on the day of the tour based on the latest weather, cloud cover and aurora forecasts. To give our guests the best possible chance of seeing the Northern Lights, we may drive long distances and, when necessary, we can travel all the way to Finland if conditions are better there. We also have access to several private viewing locations reserved exclusively for our guests. When conditions are good at these spots, we prefer to go there so our guests can enjoy a quieter experience, away from the crowds and other tour groups. We make a campfire, grill sausages, and serve warm drinks such as hot chocolate or tea while waiting for the Northern Lights. Please bring your passport, and dress warmly in winter clothing, including thermal layers, a hat, gloves and warm shoes. Return time can be late, so we recommend not booking early morning activities the next day.

What you'll see and do
Tromso
Your evening starts at Kirkegata 2, where you meet your guide and travel into the quiet valleys and fjords surrounding Tromsø. Using local knowledge and updated forecasts, we head toward the areas with the best chance of clear skies, sometimes close to the Finnish border. Along the way, your guide shares stories about Sámi traditions and Arctic life. The journey is relaxed and personal, giving you time to enjoy the landscape as we leave the city lights behind. When we find the right spot, we set up a small camp far from crowds and light pollution. A bonfire is lit, and you can enjoy hot chocolate or herbal tea, traditional snacks, and a warm meal made from local ingredients. The campfire creates a warm and natural atmosphere while we watch the sky and wait for the aurora to appear. Your guide helps with photography and captures pictures for you throughout the night. When the experience comes to an end, we return to Tromsø and drop you off at your hotel.

How much does Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos cost?

Prices start at $1200 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tromso is not rushed.
Is Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 83 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos?
+
Around 29 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Northern Lights Chase, Local Guide, Sámi, Campfire Meal & Photos start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tromso within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tromso?
+
On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tromso?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tromso?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
