Horrible & Harrowing Experience with threat to safety

I would give NordicSky Adventures zero stars. Our northern lights tour on 5 October 2026 ended with my wife, our 13-year-old son and me left at Circle K Nordkjosbotn at night without return transport. My son was frightened and my wife was crying. We paid NOK 5,449.60 for a six-hour tour, originally scheduled from 19:00 to 01:00. Earlier that day, the owner suggested moving it to the following evening because of cloudy and rainy weather. I explained that we were flying to Oslo the next day and said cancellation with a refund would be acceptable if the tour could not proceed. The company chose to proceed, moving departure to 20:00. We were the only passengers. During the journey, my son asked where we were going. The driver said somewhere about an hour from Tromsø. I asked whether we would travel farther if necessary, given the advertised tour duration. He questioned whether I expected him to drive for six hours. I said he was the expert and should advise us. Around an hour after departure, we stopped at Circle K Nordkjosbotn. The driver said we could wait there for northern lights and mentioned possibly driving another half-hour farther. When I asked for his advice, he questioned why we had come in cloudy and rainy weather. I explained that the owner had decided to proceed. The driver accused me of being angry. I said I was explaining my position. He then directed profanity at me. When I said I would call the police, he responded with further profanity. We felt intimidated and unsafe. At approximately 21:24, I called the owner to explain what had happened. The owner spoke with the driver. Shortly afterwards, the driver drove away, leaving our family at the petrol station. I contacted the owner again and asked by message whether he was sending someone. He replied, “No.” During a subsequent call, he refused my refund request and initially declined to send anyone. He then offered to send the same driver. We declined because we felt unsafe travelling with him after his behaviour. The owner said there was nothing he could do. Fortunately, a Norwegian couple travelling to Tromsø offered to take us back and also spoke with the owner. At approximately 22:02, the owner offered a different driver. By then, we had accepted the couple’s assistance and no longer felt comfortable relying on the company. The couple brought us safely back to our hotel, and we are very grateful to them. I contacted police on 02800 and was advised to submit my account by email. I have retained the booking confirmation, correspondence, messages and call logs. We understood that northern lights sightings depend on the weather and are never guaranteed. What made this experience unacceptable was the driver’s conduct, leaving our family without return transport at night, and the owner’s initial response when we asked for help.

Disappointed! Travelled all the way from Asia to Europe for nothing!!!!!!!

They did not live up to their tag line “Chasing the Northern Lights”. Instead of chasing, we were parked in the middle of Dåfjord and fed only hotdogs, marshmallow and instant tea/coffee. You are better off booking your own car to chase the Northern lights yourself. Do not book with this company.

Unfortunately, despite having clear skies, the Northern Lights were not visible that night. As you know, the aurora is a natural phenomenon, and unfortunately no tour company can guarantee that it will appear on a particular evening. There were also other guests with us that evening who were satisfied with the experience and understood that seeing the Northern Lights always involves some uncertainty. In fact, some of those guests joined us again on another evening, when the conditions were more favourable, and they were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights. As part of our commitment to our guests, if you do not see the Northern Lights on your tour, we offer a 50% discount on a second Northern Lights tour. We believe this gives our guests another opportunity to experience the aurora when weather and solar conditions are more favourable. We would also like to share one important piece of advice with anyone travelling to Northern Norway specifically to see the aurora: if seeing the Northern Lights is a priority, we strongly recommend allowing more than one night for the experience. Even with clear skies and experienced guides, the aurora is unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed. Travelling such a long distance to Northern Norway and setting aside only one evening significantly reduces your chances of seeing this natural phenomenon. We’re sorry that the evening did not provide the experience you were hoping for, and we understand your disappointment. At the same time, we hope this helps clarify that our team did actively search for the best available conditions that night, but ultimately the aurora is something that remains beyond anyone’s control. Very Very Good!

We had an amazing Northern Lights tour with NordicSky Adventures in Tromsø. The small group in their comfortable grey Mercedes minibus made it feel personal, and our local guide really knew how to find clear skies—we ended up seeing beautiful green auroras and got help with our camera settings too. Everything from the smooth Kaigata pickup to the warm drinks and snacks was well organized, and it felt like a premium, authentic Arctic experience we’ll always remember.
