Built after the D-Day landings, this temporary artificial port played a pivotal role in the success of the Allied invasion, including the Canadian landings at Juno Beach. Imagine the scale: over 40,000 workers, 300 companies, and the use of 600,000 tons of concrete, 30,000 tons of steel, and 1 million cubic meters of wood. These elements created a complex network of floating docks, breakwaters, and causeways that enabled the rapid offloading of troops, cargo, and reinforcements. Today, you can see the remnants of this harbor, a poignant testament to the ingenuity and sacrifice of all Allied forces, including the Canadians, who fought for freedom.

6. Batterie Allemande de Longues-Sure-Mer

   Make a stop at the Longues-sur-Mer German Battery, one of the most impressive and best-preserved sites of the Atlantic Wall. Perched on a cliff between Arromanches and Port-en-Bessin, this battery still houses its original 150mm guns in four massive casemates. On the morning of June 6, 1944, these very cannons fired upon the Allied fleet — including the ships heading for the Canadian sector at Juno Beach. Standing here, looking out at the sea, you can truly grasp the immense challenge the Canadians faced as they landed under such heavy fire.
