Grand Traverse Bay
Grand Traverse Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. The bay is some 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay. Grand Traverse Bay earned its name from 18th-century French voyageurs who made "la grande traverse" or a long trek or crossing, across the mouth of bay. The most famous feature of the Grand Traverse Bay is the division into East and West arms by the Old Mission Peninsula. During this tour, on the way from Traverse City to Hawthorne Vineyards, our tour guests will see stunning views of the East Bay. Tour guests will be driven right along the shoreline at times. On the drive from Hawthorne to Bowers guests will see views of the West Bay. Tour guests will see views of both East and West Bays during the rest of the tour as well. Our tour guests always LOVE Brys Estates, which is one of Michigan's Top Ten most popular wineries. Guests can choose various toppers and this drink is the winery best seller. Remember... Froze' with a Red Topper! Our tour guests will be able to purchase the only Sauvignon Blanc on Old Mission Peninsula or try the "porch pounder" which is a rare Pinot Noir Riesling blend. A true VIP experience in Traverse City...
We were given the VIP experience for this winery tour on the Traverse City peninsula. I had written a question about logistics and was immediately called back to talk about how I would like the tour to go. We chose our time and Clover showed up promptly to our pickup location. I asked if we were going to the lighthouse (not on the itinerary), but they were able to adjust it so that we could stop and walk around. We never felt rushed and all the wineries chosen were fantastic.

Amazing private tour
Clover was a wonderful tour guide who customized our trip according to my requests. I’ve been on plenty of traverse city wine tours before but was taking a friend who was visiting Michigan for the first time. We’re flexible and knew when we wanted to stay somewhere longer and Clover adjusted accordingly. Offered great suggestions for wine and also dinner after the tour for us. Thanks for a fantastic afternoon!

Fantastic Wine Tasting Tour!
We had a fantastic wine tasting tour last week with Movie Stars Wine Tours! Mike was great helping us find the right tour that worked best for us, and our guide, Tracy, was absolutely amazing! She was super knowledgeable, friendly, and we instantly felt like we’d been friends with her for ages. It was an all around outstanding experience and we’d highly recommend it!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Traverse City.
How much does NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $349 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Traverse City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Traverse City is not rushed.
Is NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Traverse City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Traverse City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Traverse City and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does NON-BUS PRIVATE Old Mission Peninsula Wine Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Traverse City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Traverse City?
+
Traverse City pairs Old Mission and Leelanau winery tours with Sleeping Bear Dunes trips, kayak and paddleboard rentals on Grand Traverse Bay and fall colour drives. On Outty we rank every Traverse City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 5-Hour Traverse City Wine Tour: 4 Wineries on Old Mission Peninsula, NON-BUS 4 Winery Traverse Wine Tour on Old Mission - ICE COLD AC, 5-Hour Traverse City Wine Tour: 3 Wineries on Leelanau Peninsula. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Traverse City?
+
June to October, with peak colour in early October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Traverse City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
