Secret way to enjoy Kyoto
Not to mention about the amazing panoramic views from the top of mountains , it was a perfect refreshment I needed - a great experience to enjoy Kyoto from a different perspective. The distance, time, and level of difficulty were all perfect, and it was a really great refreshing time in nature within the city. While engaging in the trekking the knowledgeable guide shared not just about the ninja’s role in the war strategy, but also the way of using thier physical boy as well as energetic body, and idea behind their” jyutu”- their special skills . there was also talk about etiquette at Japanese temples and shrines, and the Japanese sense of Onmyodo (the ancient mystical practice of yin-yang and the five elements), making it a really enjoyable time! A perfect activity for family with active kids too! Thank you again!!
Response from the operator: Thank you for writing this wonderful review. It was very nice to have you in the ninja trekking course. We are happy to hear that you had a refreshing time there. We hope that the spirits you felt in the course is remembered and utilized during your daily life. Thank you again and have a nice day.

Feel free to join alone
I learned a lot from hearing about mountains, how to sneak around, how to walk, etc. The emphasis is on experiencing nature while learning along the way rather than aiming for the summit, and I think you can talk to participants, have experts answer your questions, and face yourself by walking. There were only 5 people in the event, so they checked the pace of each person and took frequent breaks. There were few artificial stairs, but they were sneakers, not too steep, but enough.
Response from the operator: この度はトレッキング体験にご参加いただき誠にありがとうございました。山登りを通じてご体験なさったことが、日常生活の一助となれば幸いです。お体にお気をつけてお過ごしください。

Thank you for your valuable experience!
It was my first time climbing a mountain, so he walked the lead and I was able to learn how to walk, which was a big help! I didn’t really get to experience the ninja feeling, but I was taught manners, showed how to tie a mark as I entered the mountain, and explained what happened when I looked down on the town. They took a break at the right time when it was getting tough, so I recommend it for beginners! It was very pleasant to be hit by the cool breeze at the summit. It was a great experience, blessed with good weather!
Response from the operator: 先日はご参加頂き誠に有難うございました。また様々な気づき、学びとなったようで、こちらも大変嬉しく思います。山登りは健康にも良く、心身のバランスが良くなるので、是非とも続けて頂ければ幸いです。

Highlight of our Japan trip!
Wow! Wow! Wow! The highlight of our trip to Japan! We are a family of four with two teenage boys. We stayed in Kyoto for about 9 days and traveled around Japan during that time. This half-day ninja trekking on our last day was the highlight of our trip. We arrived at the Ninja Dojo around 8:00am to begin the day with a 1-hour private ninja training course. Since our teenage boys brought their own ninja outfits from the U.S., my wife and I were the only ones who needed to get dressed up in ninja gear. The 1-hour training session was awesome. We practiced hiding methods. We threw ninja stars. We blew darts out of a ninja blow gun. We practiced swordsmanship techniques with ninja swords. While we opted for the 1-hour instead of the 2-hour training session because of the upcoming hike, we did not feel rushed at all. When the training session was done, we headed towards the subway with ninja master Ichikawa-Sensei and his apprentice and our tour guide Kuroda-San. Ichikawa-Sensei knows the mountain, the shrines, and the prayers inside out. Kuroda-San speaks perfect English and provides detailed translations and guidence during the trek. The trek involved a 2-hour hike up the mountain along with a 2-hour hike down the mountain. We took a 30-minute lunch break at the summit along with smaller breaks on the way up and down. We visited multiple shrines during the trek and engaged in further ninja training at open spaces on the mountain. The whole experience was incredible. The views at the summit and on the way down the mountain were amazing. The prayers at the shrines and the training felt very authentic. We felt very lucky to have found these guys and joined this private trek at the end of an exhausting trip through Japan. Traveling through Japan as a tourist can feel like being in Disneyland at times. The Geisha district in Kyoto and the Samurai district in Kanazawa are overrun with tourists. Even the Hiroshima Museum feels like a house of horrors attraction with hordes of tourists popping photos while rampaging through the exhibitions. The Ninja trekking experience at Mt. Daimonji was the single most authentic thing we did in Japan. Local families, groups of elderly trekkers, and students from local schools were going up and down the mountain trying to stay active and healthy. The shrines were small and intimidate. And the prayers and entire experience was very spiritual. If you only have a few days in Kyoto, you should at least do the standalone 1-hour private ninja training at the Nina Dojo. But if you are doing a longer trip and can spare half a day, definitely do the ninja trek up Mt. Daimonji. When we came down the mountain at 2:30pm, we were at the gates of Ginkakujicho, which is a major tourist attraction in and of itself. The half-day trek did not interfere with our other tourist activities or temple visits. The whole experience took only half a day. The price we were charged, which felt excessive prior to the private training and the trek, felt like a bargain by the end of the private training and the trek because of the amount of time a professional tour guide and an expert martial artist spent with us. We will be doing this again when we are back in the area. Cheers!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and heartfelt review! We’re absolutely honored that your private Ninja training and Mt. Daimonji trekking experience became the highlight of your 9-day trip in Japan. We’re so glad your whole family enjoyed both the Dojo session and the authentic spiritual trek through the mountain. It was our pleasure to guide you through the Ninja path in a way that combined physical activity, cultural learning, spiritual reflection, and most of all—fun. Thank you again for joining us, and have a nice day!

Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.
How much does Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto cost?
+
Prices start at $349 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.
Is Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto suitable for kids and families?
+

How far in advance should I book Ninja Trekking half-day tour at Mt.Daimonji Kyoto?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kyoto?
+
On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Chopsticks Making Workshop with Engraving Option in Gion, Ultimate Kyoto Arashiyama Tour: Bamboo, Monkeys & Hidden Gardens, Kyoto: Gion Hidden Gems & Geisha Culture Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kyoto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kyoto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
