Cliff Walk
We embark on a 3.5-mile walk of Rhode Island's most popular attraction. Along the way, we pass by many Gilded Age mansions and discuss the origin stories and peculiarities of the families that lived there.
90 minutes here
We begin our tour at this breathtaking view of Narragansett Bay and explore how this stairway to the rocks below became a pavilion for ad hoc music and dancing parties for the servants who staffed the luxurious mansions at the top of the cliff.
5 minutes here
Salve Regina University
Many of the buildings that comprise this Catholic University were once Gilded Age mansions or supporting buildings on the estate. Ochre Court and Vineland Estate are two former estates that were donated to the University when their owners finally couldn't bear the costs. Hear their stories as you walk past these elegant homes.

This mansion was the home of heiress and socialite Doris Duke, who led an eccentric lifestyle. Learn about "the richest little girl in the world," how she lived, and how she might have gotten away with murder (only the ghosts know for sure).

beautiful walk but sometimes very difficult to walk
It was much longer and more difficult than we expected! it was very rocky, and sometimes very hard to walk, especially in the rain
Response from the operator: Hi Kathy Thanks for the great review. The second half of the Cliff Walk is definitely more difficult than the first half. But I'm glad that you had a good time. Gregg

Worthless. Do not waste your money!
The audio did not work properly-the speed was too fast, so everything was gibberish. I tried listening on my Bose, speaker phone and just through my phone, to no avail . I tried rebooting my phone and reloading the VoiceMap to no avail. The app map was not helpful. Don’t waste your money!!!!
Response from the operator: Hi Lynne Your purchase has been refunded. Sorry the tour did not operate properly. Whether this was a glitch with the software or a phone setting, I cannot say. This is the first time that I have heard about audio playback speed being off. Whatever the cause, this is not the usual experience. Again, apologies for the technical difficulties. - Gregg

A Day at the Cove
The audio tour was great. The history of the mansions and residents was very interesting. The audio tour also allowed us to move at our own pace. The gps was very accurate.
Response from the operator: Hi Yvonne Thanks for this review. I'm glad that everything worked out well. I really enjoyed researching and writing this tour, so it's great to hear that you found it interesting. - Gregg

A walk back in time (the Gilded Age)
This was a walk along a rocky beach with mansions on our right and the ocean on our left. It was a very informative walk. Wear sturdy shoes. We really enjoyed it.The price was excellent for the two of us to enjoy the tour. I think it took us two hours to walk the tour. We then took a free bus from the end of the tour back to get our car. I am pushing 70 so a walking stick is always helpful. It is a long walk but so enjoyable.
Response from the operator: Hi. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the Cliff Walk and that the audio tour added to your experience. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. - Gregg

Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Newport.
How much does Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $12 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Newport usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Newport is not rushed.
Is Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 43 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Newport, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Newport can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Newport and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Newport Cliff Walk - Legends of the Gilded Age GPS Guided Audio Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Newport within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Newport?
+
Newport sells mansion tours along Bellevue Avenue, Cliff Walk history, schooner and sunset sails on Narragansett Bay, and food walks through the colonial waterfront. On Outty we rank every Newport experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Newport Gilded Age Mansions Trolley Tour w/ Breakers Ticket (8+), Newport Trolley Tour with Breakers Mansion - Viking Tours, Afternoon Grand Tour | Gansett Cruises in Newport, RI. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Newport?
+
May to October, with sailing at its best in July and August. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Newport?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
