Disappointing toue
We go on lots of tours in US and abroad. Sadly this is one of the most disappointing tours we have ever been on. We rode the subway to Brooklyn and then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge in the rain. The weather is what it is but the guide while nice enough hardly spoke and didn’t teach us much about the bridge or historic buildings on the tour. We knew more about the landmarks and events than he did, we eventually just wound up reading the placards on the Brooklyn Bridge to learn things. For such an expensive private tour we felt that our guide was not a professional guide and shared too little information with us and also didn’t pace the walking tour very well.
Response from the operator: We are sorry about your poor experience. It was out new guide and apparently he didn't do his best as he should have. Rest assured, we will discuss it thoroughly with the guide and make sure he improves. Please accept our apologies. If there's anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to tell us

Small group, time efficient and perfect tour guide!
Special mention to Daniel our Tour guide. He was very well versed and knew the history of the place. Small group, time effective, highly recommended!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your lovely review, Daniel! We truly appreciate it. We do our best to provide great tours in New York for our customers. We look forward to having you on our other New York tours too!

We were disappointed in this tour...

We were disappointed in this tour. Joel was unsure and was constantly checking his phone for our route. He seemed unprepared about the subway and what lines were closed for repairs. There were very few stories or history pieces. That was our purpose for booking the tour. Two star- walking across the Brooklyn Bridge at night was beautiful.

Response from the operator:
We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your tour to the fullest. We spoke to Joel regarding the concerns you brought up and his response is below:

Thank you for your feedback! Regarding the use of a phone while on tour, I was doing this to ensure I was leading the guests to some good photo spots and tried to made it clear that even native New Yorkers get lost and need to check where they are from time to time. However, I can understand checking your phone while on tour 'looks bad' so I certainly will avoid it in the future and possibly bring a physical map instead for quick checks.
Unfortunately, I understand the customers did come away with the impression they didn't get any history or stories, so I'll certainly think on which stories may hold more interest for future guests. For this outing, I provided a story about how the community fought to preserve the neighborhood from being destroyed by an expressway, which led to the creation of the promenade with a great view. I showed them where Abraham Lincoln spoke and told them the role of Brooklyn Heights in the Underground Railroad and the history of Henry Ward Beecher and the Plymouth Church. I showed them where the lines of Walt Whitman's poem Brooklyn Ferry Crossing are inscribed at the Fulton Ferry Landing, and how ferry's from Brooklyn led to the creation of the first suburb. I showed them where the New York Times was founded, and certainly more. On reflection, I will consider adding more "juicy" stories in the future. On some other tours, I have added a famous mafia event or a tale of a murder or something in a particular place. Unfortunately, this particular locale doesn't lend itself to those sorts of stories, but other options will be considered going forward. I also in future want to bring some visuals of how neighborhoods have changed, as this has gone over very well for my other tours.
Lastly, it is unfortunate that the New York subway is ever-changing and hard to predict. That's always going to be a danger using the subway--there are so many potential pitfalls with it. Although I checked the route carefully in advance and checked if there were any delays, but still there are always small delays and unexpected closures that are hard to prepare for in advance. Please do not worry--We are still very familiar with the subway and where we are headed for the tour!
Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you were able to enjoy your time in New York!

Why this scores 45
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Brooklyn.
How much does New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide cost?
+
Prices start at $157 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Brooklyn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Brooklyn is not rushed.
Is New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 45 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Brooklyn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Brooklyn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Brooklyn and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does New York City Night Tour with Private Local Guide start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Brooklyn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Brooklyn?
+
On Outty we rank every Brooklyn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Brooklyn Bridge & DUMBO Food Tour: Local Eats & Iconic Views, The Escape Game Brooklyn: Epic 60-Minute Adventures in City Point, Bushwick Street Art Tour and Williamsburg Lifestyle Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Brooklyn?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Brooklyn?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
