Wonderful experience
This tour and our guide was excellent. We enjoyed the drive up the mountain volcano. The cable car further up was a nice experience. Later the lunch and wine tasting was very well done. We would highly recommend this tour.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Private Mount Etna Experience
This was one of the highlights of our Sicily trip. Our guide, Ita, was absolutely fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, organized, and enthusiastic throughout the entire day. One of the funniest moments happened right at the start. Despite being American, I have an Italian last name, so somehow I ended up assigned to the Italian-speaking guide. Once everyone realized I spoke English with a California accent, we all had a good laugh. Ita handled it perfectly, and it became a running joke throughout the excursion. We chose the private tour option for our family of three, and it was absolutely worth the extra cost. Traveling with our 15-year-old son, we appreciated having a more personalized experience and the flexibility that comes with a private guide. We were picked up directly at our hotel in a Jeep and enjoyed the scenic 45-minute drive to Mount Etna. Our son did great on the hike and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure. Having the guide’s full attention allowed us to ask questions, move at our own pace, and make the day feel less like a tour and more like a family adventure. The hike itself is no joke and should not be underestimated. We climbed to approximately 7,000 feet above sea level, and you definitely feel the elevation when you’re coming straight from the coast. We were told we reached roughly 65% of the way up Mount Etna before strong winds made it unsafe to continue higher. While we didn’t make the summit, the views were absolutely spectacular and more than worth the effort. A word of advice: rent the hiking boots if they’re offered. The volcanic terrain consists of loose ash, steep slopes, and rocky boulder fields. Regular tennis shoes simply would not have been adequate for many sections of the hike. The boots made a huge difference in both comfort and safety. After the hike, we enjoyed an incredible traditional Sicilian lunch paired with local wines. The wine tasting featured several excellent whites, Etna reds, and even a rosé. The food seemed endless. We were served a generous salami and cheese board, eggplant parmigiana, Italian cauliflower, caponata, arancine, and numerous other Sicilian specialties. Everything was delicious, and there was so much food that our family couldn’t come close to finishing it all. Between the unique volcanic landscape, the outstanding food and wine, and Ita’s excellent guiding, this excursion exceeded our expectations. If you’re considering a Mount Etna tour, come prepared for a real hike, rent the boots, bring your appetite, and enjoy one of the most memorable experiences Sicily has to offer.

Why this scores 80
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Taormina.
How much does Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared cost?
+
Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Taormina usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Taormina is not rushed.
Is Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 41 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Taormina, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared?
+
Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Taormina can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Taormina and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mt Etna and Wine tasting tour from Taormina - Private or Shared start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Taormina within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Taormina?
+
On Outty we rank every Taormina experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mt. Etna and Taormina village full day tour from Catania, COOKING CLASS in Taormina at Chef Massimo HOUSE!!, Mount Etna Half-Day Small Group Tour from Taormina. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Taormina?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Taormina?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
