    About this experience

Same award-winning storytelling. Different energy. Mountain Town of Madness is our adults-only evening. A darker vibe, an extra true crime story, and guides who don't have to keep it PG-13. Locally owned, originally researched, and still the only ghost tour in Flagstaff run by the people who wrote the books. 18+ only. 1,000+ five-star reviews. Voted Best of Flagstaff 2023, 2024, and 2025. There’s a reason people keep coming back and a reason certain guests say the ghosts followed them home. Mountain Town of Madness is our adults-only ghost tour & it's built for people who want a different kind of night out. Same downtown route, same original research from co-founder and local author Susan Johnson, but with guides who have the freedom to lean into the darker details and the gallows humor. Then there's the story we save for this tour: a 1980s murder trial that took a turn nobody in that courtroom expected. We'll let your guide handle that one.

Wheelchair accessible and great story telling to get started exploring haunted Flagstaff

The tour was a great opportunity to learn more about the places in Flagstaff said to be haunted! The stories were engaging and will really help explore the area with more detailed lore than you could get online. If you want to check out the "haunted hotels" it really gives you a lot of info for what -who- to look for and where! It was a fun lil adventure. I also have chronic pain and was happy to see it would have been wheelchair accessible! Walking was a good pace and not too far and standing is about 15min intervals. This was a fun tour anyone can enjoy!

    Great tour, Fantastic Guide!

What a great experience!! Even though I lived in Flagstaff for years and worked at several of the places we visited, Revel’s storytelling was incredibly interesting and compelling. I have been on several tours in many cities and this one was hands down the best. I would highly recommend.

    Spooky Halloween Tour with Steve

Outstanding adults only tour conducted by Steve - about the local haunts in Flagstaff! His radio voice and ability to project lends well to an audio tour! I really appreciated how he humanized the ghost stories and gave his own first hand counts throughout the tour. I'd definitely book with this company again - and y'all should consider a spooky tour with this organization!

Response from the operator: Thank you! Steve's radio voice and projection really do take the adults-only tour to another level. We love that you noticed how he humanizes the ghost stories and weaves in his own firsthand experiences. That personal touch is what separates a great guide from a good one. Thanks for spending your Halloween with us!

Don’t bother - overly priced, not what we expected, not “spooky” in any sense

So many hecklers that it was extremely difficult to pay attention to the stories. The stories themselves were boring, confusing, and overly detailed. Also, only a few of the stories were “known” stories that have happened to multiple people unrelated to one another. Most of the stories were personal experiences or friends’ experiences. I compare it to a student adding a whole bunch of random sentences to meet a word count requirement on an essay. Rambling about random details no one needed to know. I don’t even think people who are sensitive or are easily scared, would have been scared during this tour. So, if being scared is what you’re looking for, this is not the right tour. I will say, though, our tour guide was a nice guy doing his best and he was funny.

Response from the operator: Heather, thanks for joining us and for taking the time to leave a review. We’re proud to be Flagstaff's original haunted history tour with thousands of happy guests and top ratings for researched storytelling and theatrical guides. Our experience is history first, spooky second, and we keep the pacing focused on Flagstaff’s real lore, not gimmicks. Street activity can pop up downtown, but our routes and training account for that, and our guides are chosen for clarity, charisma, and command of the crowd. We appreciate you noting your guide was kind and funny, that’s the standard we hire and coach for. If expectations leaned toward jump scares, that’s not what we do. We share documented local history and verified accounts including from personal experiences our own guides have had (because what's realer than the person right in front of you). We’ve noted your feedback on pacing and will review it with the team. If you’d like to share specifics on which stops felt too detailed, email [info@freakyfoottours.com], input like that helps us keep the arc tight while staying true to the history we’re known for.

How long does Mountain Town Of Madness, Original *Adult Only* Haunted Downtown Flagstaff Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Flagstaff is not rushed.

Is Mountain Town Of Madness, Original *Adult Only* Haunted Downtown Flagstaff Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Flagstaff, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Is Mountain Town Of Madness, Original *Adult Only* Haunted Downtown Flagstaff Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

    +

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Flagstaff can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Flagstaff and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mountain Town Of Madness, Original *Adult Only* Haunted Downtown Flagstaff Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Flagstaff within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Flagstaff?

    +

Flagstaff sits at 7,000 feet between the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Antelope Canyon: day tours to all three, plus Lowell Observatory stargazing and Route 66 history walks. On Outty we rank every Flagstaff experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small-Group Grand Canyon Day Tour from Flagstaff, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend Day Tour from Flagstaff, Grand Canyon Tour from Flagstaff. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Flagstaff?

    +

May to October for canyon trips, December to March for snow at Snowbowl. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Flagstaff?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
