Fabulous and Unique Hike into the Grand Canyon

Our guide John was awesome. He has designed a unique hike that starts in the afternoon and ends climbing out as the sun is going down. He provides walking poles (and teaches you how to use them), he provides tons of healthy snacks, water, Gatorade, and dinner at the bottom of the descent! We recommend him without reservation but you need a reservation to book the hike with him! :)

Only way to truly experience the Grand Canyon

We could not have asked for a better guide and experience! Kevin, our guide was amazing! He was very knowledgeable, a great personality and gave us the hike that checked every box. No worries at all, every thing was taken care of for us, from equitment to a delicious dinner. One of the best ways to experience the Grand Canyon for the first time, going below the rim gives you such a different appreciation for the awesomeness of this place. Only Grand Canyon Tours is a small, family owned business where you can really feel the passion and personal touch, I would recommend to EVERYONE who visits!

Response from the operator: Kevin said. It was so much fun hiking with you guys. Thank you so much for the amazing review as that is very nice. I hope the pictures came out perfect and last forever.

Well, I wanted to be awestruck…and I WAS!

I cannot thank Jon with Only Grand Canyon Day Hikes enough! We'd never been to the Grand Canyon, so I went to Viator looking for Grand Canyon excursions with lots of 5-star ratings, saw that Only Grand Canyon Day Hikes had many of those, selected it and hit the jackpot. Didn't read the fine print, and wasn't sure how it would be. Didn't matter! Jon was prepared with anything and everything we could possibly want or need (trekking poles, back packs, water, a frozen Gatorade that melted to a perfect refreshing slush just when we needed it, and a goodie bag extravaganza that has to be seen to be believed filled with M&M's, peanut butter filled pretzels, Skittles, more great snacks, toilet paper and a map!). And headlamps (yes, headlamps!) Jon curated the excursion based on our fitness/preparedness (which he expertly gaged within a very short time of meeting us) and gave us perfect instruction on how to use the trekking poles. Plenty of stops for water breaks, snack breaks and photo ops! He selected a 3-mile hour trek down the Grand Canyon starting the starting at the South Kaibab trail to O'Neill Butte, the most picturesque, panoramic spot you could wish for, for a sunset dinner. Yes! Sunset dinner! We arrived at our destination and while my husband and I were taking in the view and talking about how much fun we were having, Jon was inconspicuously preparing a beautiful dinner for us: chicken avocado tomato sandwich brilliantly seasoned and topped with cheese, hummus and a savory dressing. I thought I was too excited to be hungry, but I ate every single bite! Delicious! Fresh! It was so substantial I needed a fork (and of course he had one at the ready--he kept pulling out the perfect thing from his backpack like Santa Claus). I feel like we experienced the Grand Canyon in the most unique, intimate and wonderful way. As we maneuvered down to our dinner destination in the afternoon, exhausted hikers were straggling back up the trail (a couple of whom Jon provided emergency water for). After our dinner, we made our climb as the sun was setting and a gentle breeze was blowing. Everything was choreographed in the perfect way. As the sun set a bright half-moon rose to light our way. As darkness fell, we were guided by our headlamps and starlight. Magic! This was a perfect excursion. Go with Only Grand Canyon Day Hikes. You will be thrilled!

Response from the operator: So glad you enjoyed our epic adventure. It was so much fun hiking with you. I hope the pictures last forever and I think we made it a memorable experience. Come back soon.

    Best hiking tour ever

This is by far one of the best experiences I have ever had. My 14 year old daughter who is super picky agrees with me. This is not your typical driving to the Grand Canyon in the bus and stay for 20-30 minutes taking photos tour. This is an actual hike going down into Grand Canyon. Physically demanding but definitely doable even for someone like me who is in her 50s and not athletic. Kevin was our guide and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was very informative and spoke about history and topography of Grand Cayman. He knew all the best spots for amazing view and photos. He brought the backpacks with all the supplies needed for us and some tasty snacks. He also made us lunch which was absolutely delicious. My daughter and I could not have asked for better experience. Highly recommend!!!

Response from the operator: Kevin said you were an absolute blast to hike with and everybody did so amazing. Thank you for spending your vacation time with us and your generosity towards Kevin is greatly appreciated.

    Epic

Worth the money for any level hiker not familiar with the canyon, or looking for a next level experience / adventure. From the initial booking to execution, communication with the provider was exemplary. Our guide (Jon), and his team ensured we didn’t need a thing. This made our travel logistics planning so much easier, and probably wouldn’t have been as prepared as what she needed to be. I was so impressed at our guide’s ability to recognize and adapt. Both my wife and I are athletes. Jon quietly gaged out abilities and provided enough instruction to take us an execution level that quite frankly didn’t think we had. During the hike, he was so in tuned with our performance and environment that made the experience more than either of us expected. Having a Top Level Canyon Expert Guide makes a world of difference. We felt safe in the extreme! He also kindly provided guidance and care to all hikers that we encountered. The unequivocal expert of the trail. We will hire this same company for our next big adventure. Additionally, having the guarantees that Viator provides makes the expense more palatable. Lastly, regarding “the best food in the Grand Canyon”- Validated!…And NO BUGS!

Response from the operator: Thanks so much for the amazing review and I had such a blast hiking with you in the Canyon. We really appreciate you spending your vacation time with us and please come back soon.

Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Grand Canyon National Park.

How much does Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $345 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Grand Canyon National Park usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Grand Canyon National Park is not rushed.

Is Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 257 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Grand Canyon National Park, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour?

    +

Around 90 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Grand Canyon National Park can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Grand Canyon National Park and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Half Day Private Grand Canyon Guided Hiking Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Grand Canyon National Park within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Grand Canyon National Park?

    +

The Grand Canyon splits into three very different products: South Rim ground tours, helicopter and fixed-wing flights, and Colorado River rafting days. Most visitors arrive from Las Vegas, Sedona or Flagstaff, so drive time is the number one factor in how good the day feels. Our ranking treats total transit hours as part of the value calculation, not a footnote. On Outty we rank every Grand Canyon National Park experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 4-Hour Biblical Creation + Sunset Tour • Grand Canyon National Park South Rim, 3 Hour Off-Road Sunset Safari to Grand Canyon with Entrance Gate Detour, Grand Canyon Signature Hummer Tour with Optional Sunset Views. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Grand Canyon National Park?

    +

March to May and September to November. South Rim stays open year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Grand Canyon National Park?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
