    Off road was great fun!

The two young guys who operated the tour were very good. Without them, the rating overall would have been lower. Aside from advertising the tour (and charging the fee) I didn’t feel Viator added much of anything. Ayun - who picked us up from Ubud - was very nearly an hour late which wasn’t a great start. But he was chatty, enthusiastic and careful behind the wheel. He dutifully delivered us to a “coffee plantation” for the inevitable “ tour”… this after repeatedly telling him we’d already done one! Eventually we arrived for “lunch” in Mt Batur and (far from the “home-cooked” meal that was promised in the advertising), we ended up with takeout meals in polystyrene containers in a dusty car park! WTF! So, accepting that reality, off we went in the Jeep 4x4 for our adventure. It turned out to be a great deal of fun and Madé (I pronounced it “Mad Eh?”) was very experienced on both the black lava and the road/track to reach a viewing point for the sunset… which was the point of the tour. He was very helpful and creative in taking shots - many of which featured his truck - and generally added significantly to the enjoyment of the experience. So, thanks Ayun. Thanks Madé. Viator…. not so much!

simply amazing, i think the sunset hike should be more popular than the sunrise one as the views are just as amazing

    also loved the evening...

also loved the evening hike, much less people. Though we didn't have any sunset, but there was anyway a nice view.

One of the best things to do in Ubud

It was definitely worth waking up at 2:30 am. We had an amazing experience of this sunrise trekking. Our guide was Sipel, it was so fun and easy to climb up with him! He was very helpful and attentive to us. Then we watched one of the most beautiful sunrises in my life - colorful sky blended with white feather clouds. We felt being so high above the earth. Sipel is a cool photographer, he made wonderful instagram photos for us! I highly recommend this guide and this tour. These memories will remain in my heart for a long time.

Mount Batur Sunset Trekking: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ubud.

How much does Mount Batur Sunset Trekking cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ubud usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mount Batur Sunset Trekking take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ubud is not rushed.

Is Mount Batur Sunset Trekking worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ubud, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Batur Sunset Trekking?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mount Batur Sunset Trekking suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mount Batur Sunset Trekking?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ubud can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ubud and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mount Batur Sunset Trekking start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ubud within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ubud?

    +

On Outty we rank every Ubud experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mount Batur Jeep Adventure, Best of Ubud Full-Day Tour with Jungle Swing, Full-Day Tour to Water Temples and UNESCO Rice Terraces in Bali. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ubud?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ubud?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
